I'm a busy mother and full-time CPA. I've lost 150 lbs so far and I started a running program to stay in shape and keep the weight off for good, so I'm "running for my life."

Lots of people have asked me recently about how I lost the weight and how long it took, so here's the story.

I have proven over and over again through my life that I can lose weight. I have lost weight on all of the programs that I've done. Some losses have been in the 20-lb range and a couple of times I've lost as much as 90 lbs. But the story is always the same. I lose focus, give up and end up gaining it all back plus some more. All of those efforts were based on a diet plan and trying to lose as much weight as I could as fast as I could lose it.

This effort started in June, 2004 as the result of the Lord's conviction about the way I was treating my physical body and my lack of discipline in that area of my life. I knew that by not taking care of my body, I was not being a good steward of God's creation. I started out with a commitment to regular exercise and changing my eating habits. This would not be a diet that just emphasized physical pounds lost. Instead, I decided it was time to change my mind, my emotions and my heart as well as my habits. This would not be a quick or easy process.

There were slow times along the way and there were times when I put myself on maintenance for a while to let my body settle into it's new weight and shape. Some of those times have been very frustrating, but all of them have contributed to changing my whole attitude about health and fitness. I have finally come to the place where I don't dwell on the sacrifices, but instead look at my goals and how I can best achieve them. I've figured out that it's more imporatant to me to keep this weight off forever than it is for me to be able to eat ice cream.

I would never have believed that I could do the things that I'm doing now, like running. There are just so many opportunities out there that I never knew could be there for me. I think when you live with morbid obesity for so long, you get to the place where you feel that you can never do anything about it. That's the way I felt, anyway. But it really is possible to shed the weight, and to change your habits. So that's my message for everyone. Determination and a willingness to change are the two main ingredients of a successful weight loss program. So what are you waiting for? You can do it!

My Goals:
3M Austin Half Marathon - goal pace 12:45 DONE and beat my goal - actual pace 12:35

My running coach is trying to talk me into a Marathon, and I'm considering it.

Long-term I want to continue to improve my running for both endurance and speed.

CrossFit for life!

My Program:
I'm following a low-carb eating plan and focusing on nutrient-dense whole foods that are high in fiber.

I'm gluten intolerant, so there's no wheat, barley, rye or oats in my eating plan.

I work-out 6 days each week. I run 4 days per week, I strength train 2-3 days per week, and do other cardio (besides running) 2 days per week.
