My spark Journey - Take 2

I originally joined Spark People in January of 2008. I did pretty well for about 7 months. Then, my computer crashed and I was without SP. It hurt my progress. I tried to restart when I got my computer fixed, but my motivation had left. NOW though, I have grandkids!!! I have got to be healthy to enjoy them. I am starting out heavier than I was in 08, but more committed than ever to get the weight off and keep it off.

Bad days are bound to happen to everyone. You could be having the best week of your life, only to have some calamity smack you right in the forehead. But is this the end-all and be-all? Probably not. If you wake up the next day and the sun has risen, chances are you will be just fine. Work to fix whatever problems you may have encountered, but don’t let them take a central role in your life. Do whatever it takes to resolve the issue and move on. Maybe that means not being too proud to apologize, or maybe even humble enough to accept an apology. You can make it work. Each day is a new opportunity; make as much use of it as you can.

Goal setting is a very important part of the SparkPeople System. It is crucial to set goals at a challenging, yet obtainable level. Setting goals too low will not provide the motivation to actually do them. Setting them too high is like setting yourself up for failure. Once you set some goals, it is important to stay committed to those goals until you’ve reached them. If you find that a goal no longer applies…it is time to revamp your goals and create new ones.

Want to put a smile on someone’s face, or make someone’s day? It’s easier than you think. All it takes is saying something nice. A compliment does things to a person’s self-esteem and state of mind that is immeasurable. What happens to you when a nice thing is said about you? You feel good, of course. But what gives a compliment an even bigger impact is when it’s unexpected. When someone comes out of the blue to say ‘good job,’ or a person you do not even know gives you a compliment, it’s likely to send you through the roof. And that’s all it takes to make someone’s day. So, if you appreciated a co-worker’s hard work, tell him about it. Congratulate your kid, or someone else’s kid, about her 100% on the science test. It’s a simple but powerful way to put a smile on someone’s face.

When you fail do you find it hard to get back up? If you do, you are completely normal. Many people use failure as an excuse to give up. It is important to understand that failure is a part of the growth process. Think about this example. How many times does a small child fall over before they finally stand and eventually walk? It is countless, but somewhere along the way, most of us lose that ambition to keep trying until you succeed. The next time you are defeated, think about it as part of a process. Get up and try again and again until you move forward.

Many people find it hard to accept a compliment or praise when they are just doing something they should’ve done anyways. For example, if someone praises you for exercising or eating do you take it? Do you allow yourself to celebrate your success or do you think I don't deserve praise; I'm just doing what I should? If you don't allow yourself to celebrate your victories, no matter if they seem like common sense or not, you might find it difficult to remain consistent to your goals, especially with things you are supposed to be doing anyways. So, for the next few weeks, when someone comments on something you've done or a goal that you are trying to pursue...take it as a compliment and allow yourself to celebrate that success. You will find that people are more likely to support you and your goals if you are willing to take compliments when they are given!

My Program:
I am staying between 1200 and 1500 calories a day and going to aerobics 3 times a week. I also have given up my Pepsi habit (I used to drink a six-pack a day) and converted to water (YUK)! I began a Couch to 5K training program and my goal is to be able to run a 5K in August. I also just joined Curves.
