I enjoyed reading what you said about why you run. I just started. I hope to learn more. I'm a newbie.

I started for about 3 or 4 weeks and began again. I'm tying to figure it mostly myself. I did post at two groups, and got a remark or two.

Thanks for your input to my question on whether I should join the YMCA. I really appreciate you taking the time to do that!

Thanks for the comments on the message boards. My peers say I am so active, they say I wish i was like you, I cringe. When I try to approach them to get up and move it just seems to fall on deaf ears.
I tried but it seems people think there are enough things on Spark already.
I told DH I am not getting anywhere with this so i will do as you are doing looking out for myself and try to keep my mouth and typing to a minimum on the subject.
We live in the Capital city I asked the City Rec department if we could use a gym in a now vacant city school for walking in the winter. They said yes 7am till 9am the gym is rented to other organisations for basketball. We are in Maine, the snow plows are still out and that is the busiest time of the day. Seniors can go to the Y with silver sneakers, that's OK but the younger ones do not go they are still working and waiting for retirement. It is often too late to wait to retire for exercise time.
I just hoped there was another way. Thanks again for your comment it's a GREAT job you are doing.

Thought I would drop a comment about running on the road and at night. I run mostly at night. I wear a reflective vest, white head lamp at the front and red tail light at the back. I don’t listen to music as I want to see and hear what is going on. I run facing traffic.

As I am running down the road and see an approaching car I not if it moves towards the center line as it approaches me. This is typical as the drivers see my light, my vest etc. If the car does not move over, then I move further off the road. For me, the fact that the driver did not take the typical evasive motion is a warning that the driver either is not seeing me, is not in good shape (sleepy, drunk, etc.) ; at any rate, I take it as a warning.

I am always amazed when I pass bikers or runners wearing dark clothes without reflective devices. I some time come upon a runner who I first see when my head lamp lights up their face or hands enough to see them. Occasionally I will suggest they get some reflectors, but by and large this is not well received so I typically will let it pass and hope for the best for them.

Thanks for your inspirational post of May 12, 2012 under the thread topic of "resentment" (something like that, anyway!)
It was very helpful for me!
