Hello, fellow Sparkers

Isn't it fun checking out people's pages? Wish I had some pictures, but I've been avoiding cameras for years...

As a "skinny kid" for 30-ish years, it was pretty tough to change habits when the onset of age and a sedentary job started changing things. Then, for the next (almost) 30 years, things went - well - uphill, until I was well over 100 pounds overweight. Now, contemplating the *next* 30 years, I've come to the conclusion that I'd better do something so I'll be able to take care of the kids in my old age - I have nine (fur) kids, and it's just too danged hard to lean over and clean out the blasted cat boxes!

I'm getting closer to 60, and thinking about what things will be like as I get along in years. I do not intend to spend those years hauling myself around from one doctor's appointment to the next, huffing and puffing all the way. I want to be one of those slim & trim, grey-haired old birds who is self-sufficient and independent, who works in her garden, volunteers actively in community groups, who does day trips with the local hiking club and walks rings around the cocky young foks.

Wouldn't it be a kick to play frisbee again? Guess I'll have to find some other wiry old birds to flock with....

Long-term: I need to lose 120 pounds to get my BMI into "normal" range.

Get off this flippin' plateau!!!!!!

My tracker is set to my nearest short term goal, so the horizon isn't so far away...
(Thanks to a plateau, I totally missed my Sept 30 goal of 245 - sigh)

Punx Phil Team goal commitment is 225 by Feb.
As for non-scale goals - there's a lot. Someday I may blog a list...

My Program:
As of October 2011
Adding in resistance band workout videos on ST days

As of Sept 2011
Track calories daily;
Stay within SP's designated calorie range (more or less)
Cardio 3 days/wk: 3-4 miles Leslie Sansone walk- at-home (45-65 min)
Strength 3 days/wk:
"100 pushups in 6 wks" program (doing wimpy counter-high pushups)
35-40 min with Andrea Metcalf or Erin O'Brien vids, using 3 lb weights
7th day - trying to get in the habit of doing a yoga session, but that's spotty so far...

    Thank you for your support. This was my third surgery (not for the same injuries) but this was by FAR the worst for me to recover from so far. I can't wait to get back in and kick butt! I want it so bad. I can't wait til I have energy and I'm not dragging myself around lol. Thanks again!

    Love what you said on someones blog "I waffle all the time between "I really need to exercise" and "I could be doing all this other stuff if I don't work out this morning". Just try not to lose your own longer-term goals among all the right-this-minute urgent stuff. Find the happy balance; not too fast, not too slow, but Just Right !"

    Awesome progress so far. I am just starting over again, and though I am a few years younger than you are, for most of the same reasons. Yoovie affected me the same way...first it is "what's with the skinny chick on here" but she grows on you. I like her straighforward attitude.
    Well, best wishes on a continued downward trend. Maybe you can share your "secrets of success" with me.
