As I was putting on a pair of pants that wouldn�t fit, I was very frustrated. It had only been a couple of months since I had bought them and already they were tight. I had gone to the doctor the month before and she had suggested I start losing weight. I had horrible acid reflux, back pain and problems with my blood pressure and I was only 26. But even knowing that, I couldn�t stop eating unhealthy food. With my clothes not fitting and remembering looking at my family�s Christmas pictures, I decided enough was enough. On January 12, 2008 with the help of the Kmart New Day Your Way Challenge, I began my long weight loss journey.

At my initial weigh in, I weighed 188 lb. For a person who weighed 115 lb in high school, that was a shock. Yes, I knew I had gained weight on birth control and gotten big, but I never thought I had gained so much weight. The goal for the challenge was to lose 1 lb a week. I started to walk on my treadmill and limit the amount of fast food I consumed. By the time I joined Sparkpeople at the end of the month, I had lost about 2 lb.

It wasn�t until I started tracking my food that I realized what I was putting in my body. Not only was I eating too many calories, I was also consuming too much fat and sodium. Through SP I learned about portion control, which I knew nothing about. I learned about different exercises I could do and how many calories they burned. I read many health articles and motivational stories. Every time I felt like a failure (because I gained a pound or felt guilty for eating an unhealthy meal), SP always made me feel better about myself. I still remember reading one of the daily e-mails that said that just because you have one bad day, it doesn�t mean you needed to throw away everything you worked hard for. My problem before SP was that as soon as I started gaining weight, I would give up because I thought I was a failure. With SP, I learned that everyone has a bad day, but every day is a new day. Being part of different teams kept my motivation up, as well as going through each stage of the program.

My journey has not been easy. Completely changing my diet and incorporating some type of physical activity was hard. Giving up greasy food and completely getting rid of foods containing trans fat and high fructose corn syrup (which I learned from SP to be bad) was the hardest thing I have ever done. I no longer take medications for my acid reflux, my blood pressure is back to normal and my back doesn�t hurt anymore. I am full of energy and I feel healthy. SP has changed my life.

I�m proud of myself for inspiring my husband to join me on my weight loss journey. We both used to eat unhealthy and packed on the pounds together. When I started to eat healthy and exercise, he did it too. At one point, he was almost 200 lbs, but last time he weighed himself, he was 160 lbs. We are both working on eating healthy together and making positive changes in our lives. We rock!

I am living a healthier life because of the changes I have made. I am a better person, and I am happy to have inspired other people to do the same. I still remember recently taking out my �fat pants� out of the closet and putting them on just to see how they looked. I couldn�t believe that at one point in my life, I really did fit into those huge pants. That keeps me motivated.
I have friends and relatives who ask me how I have lost the weight. I always talk about Sparkpeople and how it has changed my life. I feel it�s my duty as a Sparker to pass on this information to people who want to know what my secret is. And being part of the Community Team on SP has definitely been inspiring, helping to welcome new members and having people tell me that they are inspired by me. There is no better reward than that...

Fitness Minutes: 9,823

My Goals:
My ultimate goal will be to get down to 130 lbs...for now, I would like to be 140 and then I'll decide how much more weight I need to lose. I want to look fit.

My Program:
I only eat organic foods. I eat a lot of fruits and I TRY to eat vegetables. I drink about 10 glasses of water a day, and sleep 4-5 hours every night.

At the moment I'm lost as to what physical activity I want to do to lose this weight. Definitely walking. I may use a treadmill someone gave me, some workout videos on YouTube? Who knows. I'm going to try things and stick to what I like as I figure it out.

Personal Information:
I'm a San Diego native. I'm an elementary school teacher. I have 3 kids and a dog =)

I'm a funny and caring individual, I love to laugh and joke but I'm serious when I have to be...

I love food but I am learning how to eat healthier...
