Hi. I am Sherry, and I weigh way too much. I started Spark people weighing 186 and am thrilled with losing 12 pounds this past month. I joined Sparkpeople because I felt so out of control. Sometimes I just felt lost. I feel so fortunate that I came across this wonderful site while looking at Realage site after watching the Dr. Oz show in January.
Anyway, I lost my way last January when my mom and my 12 year old daughter both were hospitalized. My mom went to therapy at a nursing home and just hated it there. She was use to me taking care of herand cooking for her. I planned to take her home but then went in for an emergency gallbladder surgery. I went home in aweek and the next week my mom came home to live with us. She use to live around the corner and I was there 3 or more times a day so it was actually easier to have her here.
My mom and daughter had both lost their appetites and I would cook anything to get some calories in them. Ofcourse, the rest of us ate it too. I however, am short and female and gained about 55 pounds. My boys and husband did not. I quit running and walking, found the couch and stayed home to take care of everyone. I did not go to the gym, the store or church.
On September 4,2009, my Mom went to heaven. I silently fell apart. I ate myself silly with no thought of the consequences. I again was responsible for everything. My two brothers --one in Iraqand the other a druggie were useless. Thank God for my husband and my three kids. They have been my rocks and have done more than I ever dreamed they would without complaint.
Then, in January, after my brother headed back to Iraq, and my older son(20) headed back to college, my husband went to work , and I had time to look myself in the mirror. Wow. I was just fat and so out of shape. So, I ended up here. I understand I have no excuses. I am also so thankful for all you sparks and your encouragement. I just love

Wow - as others have said, thanks for sharing. I identify with your story - I'm short, fat, and was taking care of everybody else for so long that I forgot to take care of myself! I'm so glad to see how well you've done based on your ticker & I hope to see myself there some day too!

HI. Thanks for sharing. A lot of it could have been my story. I am also only about 5'2" and at least 40 pounds overweight. One of my problems is that I am 75 years old and a lot of the exercises are to vigorous for me.
I was on the spark plan a few years ago but couldn't recover my plan so I rejoined using a different pass world I am enjoying it . Have only been on a short time and need all of the encouragement I can get. Keep up the good work!!! emoticon

Sherry, thanks so much for sharing! I read a lot of myself in your blog, and it feels so reassuring knowing that I'm not the only short female who occupies her couch frequently. I, too, have lost my mojo and need to find that inner spark again. I did Weight Watchers four years ago & lost 30 lbs., with little to no effort & felt GREAT! But my husband started complaining about the change in our diet (he's a meat & potatoes guy who doesn't like change), so after I was done with WW, I went back to cooking the foods he wanted....and gained the weight right back. I turn 40 in a couple of weeks, and I really want to try and eat better so I don't develop diabetes or heart disease. Your words have been touching, and it may be just what I need to find that spark. Thanks!

Hello, I just read your page. I too lost my mother 2 years ago. She had battled weight all her life and at that time I already weighed 178 , but gained up to 186. My mother told me, that I may have not known ,but her weight had always hurt her, she felt people looking at her talking about her , and caused her health problems she knew she was dying and she wanted me to promise her I would work on my weight and I did,but it wasn't until now that I feel that I can accomplish this . I know this site and all the wonderful people will get my there and my own determination. When my mother passed she was down from 200+ to 130, but it was her illness that got her there, and I don't want to get there that way. My name is Carol and my page is 1935mary in the honor of my mother, she will always be with me. emoticon
