This is my hail Mary pass. In august of 2010 I was hit by a work van while biking in a bike lane. Since then I have had 2 surgeries. Both failed, and chronic back and neck pain plague my daily life. Since the surgeries I have gained 100 pounds. I am less able to be active, and a lot of emotional eating and eating to distract myself from my pain.

Everyday is unpredictable. I don't know how much pain I will be in or what will make it worse. I spend most of my time lying in bed - medications don't work well so this is the only option I have that might relieve the pain.

I feel like a prisoner in my own body.

Friends, family and community used to be an extrermly important part of my life. Now, I am no longer a person people can rely on because I no longer control my ability to be present. I have definitely lost a lot of friends to this pain.

The pain also had a horrible effect on my emotional state and I was severely depressed on and off for a year and a half. This caused me to hate being around people. I dreaded the question how are you. I didn't want to burden others, there was nothing they could do, and it was painful for me to talk about. So I would say fine, which couldn't have been further from the truth. When depression was really bad I would just genreally stop talking to everyone. Thanks to my doctors and family the depression has improved, otherwise I am not sure I would still be here.

As of yet my surgeons have not been able to find a solution to my pain. I CAN NOT live like this, and I will not. I am miserable. I am hoping that if I lose weight the pain will deminish, and then completely go away.

Weight loss feels like my last option. At this moment I am very determined to shed enought weight to be a healthy weigh according to the Body Mass Index. Currently that is 122 pounds.

This time is different. It isn't about looking good, or being able to shop at certain stores, training for a half-marathon or attracting a certain guy. This is do or die time. I need pain to leave so I can live.

My strategy, this is so I can live so if I mess up, it's not a mess up it is a choice I made and the next one will be better. No guilt, move on and keep going forward. This is not a diet, this is a new lifestyle.

This is forever and this needs to happen.
