** Feel free to add me as a Sparkfriend! Inspiration and motivation goes all ways. :D

I was born at a very young age, or so I'm told, and grew up as an overweight, sedentary kid, extending into adulthood. By the time I graduated from high school, I was lumbering around the 285-pound mark. There was always this notion in the back of my mind that if I didn't do anything to change by the time I turned 30, that would be it; THAT would be my starting point. Then something interesting happened just before my 30th birthday. My family doctor told me this:

"Overall, you're healthy, except for your weight. I'm also the city coroner, in addition to being your doctor. I'd rather not see you for the former."

BAM! That did it. Motivation slapped in the face and thrust me into 'healthy living' mode.

Several things have changed for me over the past several years. I initially lost about 70 lbs a few years back and was eating and living well overall. I was running regularly and seeing improvements in my running regimen. But then I had to stop running due to some Achilles' issues. At the same time, my work schedule changed from steady day shifts to a two-week rotation of days and night shifts. Lifestyle changed, exercise regimen changed, eating habits changed... none for the better.

Now I have to reassess and set some new goals. Goal #1 is now and always has been weight loss. My goal weight is 190 lbs. Back in the old days, I was up to around 285 lbs and miserable. It took me a long time to shake that. At my lowest, I was down to 208. I've steadily put on weight since then. Cause and effect has never been so clear a lesson to me in all my life. I'm getting back to healthier eating, a steady exercise routine, and a motivated lifestyle.

Shift work provides a major challenge to find balance, time and energy. I have some obstacles to overcome there. With luck, I'll also be able to coerce my wife of 14 years, my 13-year-old daughter, and my 10-year-old son into joining me, if only bit by bit as I've done over the past few years.

Besides, I have half a wardrobe of clothes that I fit into over a year ago that misses me. :)

Ahh Troy! The closet full with not fitting cloths.. I've even relocated them to America lol! Yes, we know how to lose weight but do we know how to keep it away? We will find out. Great that you have full support of your family. We all need it! 🤣

Thank you so much for your feedback. I just seem to be in a nutritional/fitness rut, can't seem to break out of. Just to give a little insight to my personal journey (of roughly 15 years)... I started at 223lbs, set mini-goals along the way. First was to get below 200 (in 10lb increments) - Done. I got to 190 and had my first son, then got back to 190. Then it was to get to 170 (again in 10lb increments) - Done. Got to 170 and had my second son, then got back to 170. There were ups and downs along the way but no serious "gain backs". I got back to spark March of this year still at 170, lost slowly but now at 162 (61lbs lost to date). I'm 5'7 so 3 more lbs will get me to a healthy BMI (at 159) so I'm focusing on those 3 lbs right now. After that, I'll take the 14lbs left that will get me to my ultimate goal of 145. I just cannot seem to shed those last damn 3 lbs! I definitely try to change it up. I eat my minimum of 1200 calories/day but don't go over my upper limit of 1400, as 1500 seems to be my maintenance. I routinely drink about 12 cups of water a day, its just in my nature to be a water drinker, always has been. I do an hour of cardio everyday on a recumbent bike, and I know I need to change that up, because the more often you do the same exercise the more efficiently your body does it and the less effective it is at calorie burning, so I try Interval while cycling. I also add Resistence/strength training3-4 days a week. And I am so so sorry for hijacking your comment feed with this rambling! I really am! lol It just helps I guess, to know someone else has "been there" and is still struggling at times, And thank you again.

How has your journey been going? I'm finding the closer I am getting to my goal the slower the progress, have you experienced any of this? Any tips?

I've been back on Spark People for a month and I've been having slow steady weight loss. I'm hoping that means it'll be easier to sustain and then maintain. *fingers crossed* I'm trying to get rid of anything unhealthy in my life, it's a process :)
