I went running today!!!!!

I went running today - the first time since my knee arthroscopy at the end of january. Whooohoooo!!! It felt good, man!!

It was finally time - I had bought a new pair of running shoes yesterday to use with my new insoles, so that I was giving my knee the best protection I could, and my physio had given me the all-clear to try things out gently. They're Mizuno, which I haven't used before, but look and feel nice! They also tried a pair of Nikes on me, but I could feel my knee tweaking in those, and I guess my running didn't look good in them either, cos the guy wasn't happy with those.

Anyway, I went out to the park this morning, beautiful day that it is today, and I did 10 lots of run 1 min, walk 1 min, mostly on grass. Actually, that was DOUBLE what I intended to do, as I was just going to do 5 cycles and take it easy being the first day. naughty me - it felt soooo good, and it seemed like a waste to just be out there for 10 minutes, so I went on and did double. BUT, I was telling myself that I MUST listen to my body and not push it in future -- don't want to get right back to pain and injury territory after all this good work sitting still and healing... (And I must not forget the stone I've put on since the injury, which will not be nice landing on my poor old knee -- but today's not a day to beat myself up...)

Anyway, back to the flat and some upper body exercises to round out the workout, and then the biggest set of stretches ever, including the incredibly-torturous-but-very-
good-for-you foam roller. And now the ice pack too, now that I'm finally sitting down later.

Yay! I can't believe I did it! And I'm feeling great!! I *must* take it easy now and not get carried away. Better that I take microsteps and make slow, unheroic progress than get stopped forever by a worse injury. Grinning from ear to ear, though - heeee!! B-)

    Good to see you back running and pacing yourself to avoid getting injured!!! I am sooo new to running that the thought of a knee injury scares me to death!!! It's nice to know that one can recover and get back on the road!!! Here's to longer pain-free injury-free runs in your future!!! Jackie!!! emoticon

    Woo Hoo! I'm so glad to hear you can finally start to get back into running, which is something I'm still working on. Just keep reminding yourself to listen to your body and avoid any pain! Although you might want to do a lot more, keep your progress slow and steady.
