Success!

Saturday, August 02, 2008

On our return to Congo, I was met by stunned silence with regards to my weight. Every other time, I've been praised for how healthy I look because I'm nice and fat. Now there are whispered consultations about what health problems I must have experienced to have gotten so thin. Success! :)

Aren't our cultural differences so fun?? Well, I'm not whispering when I say "CONGRATS!" - and I'm sure you must be feelling better, too. I know I am as I am losing a little each month.

Oh, how well I can relate. I just "hate" coming back to Africa because I know people will great me with congratulations like, "You've gained weight", and "You look so good"! While in the States I try very hard to at least stay the same weight so that I can come back with, "no, I'm the same weight as when I left"! However, they are almost ALWAYS right. I normally HAVE gained weight!! I go on speaking trips for weeks at a time, eating at church potlucks, w omen's sabotage salad luncheons and of course all the "all you can eat" buffets!!

Congratulations.... You can just smile amongst the whispers. I haven't lost much yet but it is nice when I can slip into something that it has been a long while since wearing and people ask me "is that new?".

    Best,
    Kris
