Taking Care Of You

Sunday, October 05, 2008

I know we are all here because we want to take care of ourselves. We say we want to be healthier, more in shape and live longer but are we really taking care of our whole body. Yes we are taking care of what goes inside and doing what we need to, to make the outside work properly during exercise.
Do you take care of your mind and spirit? These are two things I don't think anyone pays enough attention to at times. We don't take enough time to mentally prepare ourselves for things that can emotionally upset us or things that can bring our spirit down. We are always to busy taking care of making the outside look good that we don't mentally prepare the inside as well. If we took time out to do the small things in life to take care of our mental state I think we would be better prepared to handle most of life's stressful situations that come at us. I'm not talking about the bigger stresses like death but maybe the smaller things that wont hurt us so heavily like when our children aren't doing so well in school or when the car breaks down or the job isn't going so well.
Take some time out in your day to do something for yourself that would give you a mental break. I'm not just talking about a couple of minutes. Give yourself at lease 30-45 minutes a day to yourself. I know some of you are probably saying "Yeah right that is not going to happen". Think about all the things you do in a day and then think about all the time it takes for you to do these things. If you took 2 minutes away from each thing you do I am sure you would come up with at lease 30 minutes extra in the day. Even if you got up 30 minutes earlier then everyone in your home and spent some time alone to do something for yourself you would be ahead of the game. If after getting all the children to bed you took some time to yourself instead of picking up the house you would have some time to yourself.
Having others in your household help around the house more gives you more time to yourself later on. No excuses should even come of this. If you have to make excuses as to why you can't get time for yourself then your only hurting yourself in the long run. When your runned down and worn out your only going to have yourself to blame and no one else.
Take care of the whole you and not just the outside shell. Sure we all want to look good but we have to feel good from the inside out. Take Care Of You because no one else will.

SO true and I did miss out on taking care of ME. SO I take special care to take the time to do so now.
I have read many pages where women say time for me now or time to take care of me...we tend to set ourselves aside while putting our families first.

I definitely agree. I have learned just how important it is to take care of self. So often, we spend too much time with all the other things in life and forget about ourselves. I know everything is important but we sometimes forget that WE are important too and we find time for everyone and everything but neglect ourselves. Spark has helped me to include ME in the things that I do.

Bravo! Bravo! If that's one thing I learnt on this journey - it was that I was worth the ME time! I have at least half an hour a day now, first thing in the morning when all is quiet and I'm at my best (I'm a morning person-lol). It was hard to get use to at first (and to get over the guilt) but it is well worth it. And your right, this journey is not just about weight loss, it has opened up many doors for me and has improved my life overall, mentally and physically. It is an all encompassing lifestyle change.
