It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Sunday, December 07, 2008

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Well, sort of. Hubby has most of the outside decorations up, but we still don't have our Christmas tree up as yet. We will be getting to that this week.
I am way off my normal Christmas schedule of tasks compared to years past. But, I am not freaking out and everything will get done and fall into place.
I have finished most of my shopping except for a few odds and ends. Thank goodness for the internet. The easiest way to shop and avoid the crowds!
I don't have anything wrapped yet, but I should have time later this week. I just love turning on some Christmas music and wrapping gifts. That always puts me in a holiday mood.
We have attended two Christmas parties over the last two weekends and with all the great food offered, I didn't get crazy and overdo it on sweets and desserts. But, they were tempting!
So far the one thing I was most concerned about has not been a problem. I had been worried that once the holiday season kicked into full swing and because of all that goes with it, that I wouldn't be able to keep up my exercise schedule. So far that hasn't happened and I am really thankful for that. I have had to do some rearranging of my workout schedule but still managed to get it done.
Now, I just need to keep focused through the holidays and then everything will be back to a regular routine.

Spark People has really helped me change how I feel about food and exercise. I know how important it is to incorporate everything I have learned into a healthier lifestyle. And no matter how busy I am, I make time for me. And making time for me includes getting the exercise I need and enjoy doing and eating in a way that will help me live a better life.

I think you are right, that the kids will be fine. Once when I was a kid, my school took a group of us to feed the homeless. I was probably in the 3rd or 4th grade. That really opened my eyes and made me see things differently. If you have time, maybe try to take your kids to spend an afternoon volunteering at a homeless shelter or some other place for people in need. You’d be surprised how that might change how your kids will see Christmas. It sure helped me and my classmates that participated.
