January 7, 09- first work out for the New Year

yesterday's work out felt GREAT! I missed working out...it's much better than laying in bed sick! I did about an 1.5 of strength training and core work. Then I finished off with a nice 1 mile of slowwwwwww jogging., I haven't run in a while and after my ST it was not pretty. Still, I got through it.

I'm very sore this morning and think it's going to get worse before better. Usually, it peaks at 24 hours after a work out, and I'm not at the 24 hour mark yet. I'm not sure what my work out today will be. Normally it's spin on Thurs. evening. But that may be a bit tougher to logistically do today. Have to think about that one.

I got in touch with my trainer. Marlene is great. I am really motivated to strengthen and tone. i know by spring I'll be logging some miles on my bike to do my next century. So during these winter months, I think strength training and toning is what i want to focus on. Besides, it will contribute to my climbs when I bike which is my weakness. Marlene will call me today and we'll see where it goes. We're going to do a fitness evaluation first to measure my progress! We didn't do this last time, and I'm excited to have this component as part of my equation. This way I can measure my progress in fitness in a manner that isn't dependent on the scale. Since, muscle weighs more than fat and that is what she is concentrating on helping me to accomplish, she says, "the scale is my worst enemy." I kind of already new this as it often sabotages my progress when I do all this work and nothing comes off. So I think the evaluation is the way to go...this will include a fat measurement. It's either this or lipo! LOL

So, I'm excited to get this going. She kicked my bootie last time, and it works. I'll be looking even better in my swim suit this year than last year. I'm looking at summer wear already! LOL I love summer!!!! I love beaches! I love pools!

let's see where things evolve to from hear....I know what I want, so now it's figuring out how to make this work! I will find a way!

    Hey Elsa,

    Glad to hear that you are getting back in the swing of things. I too have a renewed commitment in 2009. I slipped backwards quite a bit at the end of last year, but now I am back at it with a vengeance.

    I am going to start running again in about a month or so. Right now I am going to the gym, walking, biking, and playing roller hockey to try to lose some more weight before I hit the roads with running. My eating is back on track too, I am eating fairly clean, and already I have lost some weight this year. Now I just have to stay in this mode for the rest of my life. I found out the hard way what happens if I don't. I have decided not to do much overtime at work anymore, it just throws me way out of balance. I hope I am able to do that and still be a valued employee, it is hard to compete with those who work incredible hours, but for my health I just can't. Health is more important to me.

    Anyhow, I hope you are enjoying your 2009 so far. I know I am. I will start updating my page again and will try to blog more often.

    emoticon Now that's the Elsa I'm talking about!!! Sounds like you've got a plan. I'm glad you're in pain, it's evidence of you working it or even overworking it... but nevertheless, you WORKED IT. Glad the illness is gone and that you're not sitting around waiting for someone to invite you to exercise. LOL I'm addicted to my scale... but after my last measurements, I think i better get addicted to lifting weights. LOL Fat BEgone is my motto for the next month. LOL

    sounds like a good plan, chica! I worked out off and on in Dec. and I still feel like I lost some endurance when I was on the treadmill....BUT we will get it back!

    Summer is upon us and we WILL be ready! Where are we going again? LOL! I'm buying you a summer scarf!
