Running again....

Trying to atleast. Got a small run just under 3 miles. It was hard at times, felt like my legs were lead at times. I want to do a 1/2 marathon in October. I've wanted to do this for awhile but my on again, off again running (more off, than on) isn't helping. I have to get my miles back up. I need to do a lot of things to get myself there. There's a lot! My eating even needs to be tuned up! My laziness about things (exercise) has got to improve. OH so much work and this is where the inner voice starts talking all negative to me! UGH!

    I have had surgery on both knees and since then, I had to give up straight running. Now I do a walk - run. You might consider this as a way to build your mileage base and give your knees a rest and slowly build up strength in them. Also, a comprehensive strengthening program really helps the knees. When I do leg raises, adduction, abduction, hip flexors, calf raises, I really feel less knee pain! Good luck on the running. I know how you feel about wanting to do it. I am the same way =)

    sometime you just need to get off the couch and do it even when you don't feel like it, actually, specially when you don't feel like it. a October 1/2 marathon sounds like a great plan. I am thinking of one myself. I am hoping my dh will train with me. I can easily run the distance, he is a beginner runner so it will be a bigger challenge for him. I am willing to train with him every step of the way. If you could find a buddy to train with it might help you get going, and keep going.

    My motivation is my running shoes. I put them on and that usually gets me all fired up. Whether I run 1 mile or 5, the shoes always get me started. Block out the negativity and think positive and you truly can do anything.

    The more you do it the less you'll have that 'I don't want to do this attitude'. It's so hard to not stop when you feel that click in place in your brain but if you keep it up you'll be glad you did in the long run!

    Try to find that voice inside yourself that tells you, "I can do this." Positive self-talk is really important. Try to quiet that negative voice in your head and give your quieter voice (the one that knows the truth!) an opportunity to be heard. :)
