Facing My Giants
Tuesday, July 07, 2009
I picked this title because it seems like lately I have had to face many giants. First and foremost in my mind is sweet tea. I love tea. I drink it all day every day. But, you see, I noticed I wasn't losing any weight even though I had cut out all soda, candies, and other sweet treats. My husband brought to my attention that perhaps I needed to let go of my sweet tea. It was a very hard task at first. But, I eventually gave it up and now am drinking water only. Water seemed so boring at first, but now my body craves it.
Sometimes giants come as a fear of failure. You are working hard and don't see the results your looking for, but remember that you will succeed. No matter if the scale reflects it or not your body is going to make changes with better eating habits and exercise. Failure can be a very harsh giant to face.
I also have found that when I am working out I get tired and give up too soon. I just give in to my mind screaming "Stop! You can't do anymore!" I now fight my way through that extra set of reps. I push myself harder to burn that extra 50 calories. It's been amazing to feel the difference in my body. But, had I given up and given in to those giants that face me everyday I would never have made it this far.
When I looked in the mirror all I saw was a woman who was tired, busy, and didn't have time to workout and eat right. But, now I look in the mirror and I face those giants everyday and tell them that I have control and it's time to do something for myself. That means eating right and pushing my body farther every day to achieve my goals.
I don't know what your giants may be. It may be time, food, exercise, or even friends and family that are telling you that you can't do it. Whatever it is, it is time to face them and show them that you can do it and you will do it!
So, next time your body is screaming "No more push-ups!" Try to do at least one or two more. If your body says "You can't lift that weight one more time!", lift it once or twice more just to prove you can do it.
Each day I am learning to face my giants and overcome them. I will be victorious in the end. You, too, can overcome if you can only look at your giants, stand up to them, and then knock them down one by one!
