Loss of a Friend

Tuesday, July 07, 2009

Just an hour or so ago my 100 year old friend died. We sat at the same table for about 2 years. She talked and laughed and I yelled and laughed. She was so deaf. I think her life was amazing. She lost her husband at 35 and continued their chicken/egg business to make a living. She also went back to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She said she never had to ask for a job, people were always wanting her to work for them. The marriage didn't produce any children, but she must have had a dozen loving nieces and nephews. There were more friends than I could count at her 100th birthday party. She talked to me about studying the Bible and was really excited when a lesson made her think about something a different way. Besides the Bible, I saw her reading 3" thick books on subjects you wouldn't think an old lady would be interested in. Her mind was wonderful and her sense of humor was the best. At my age, I'm sure she was still working. She came in here at 95. I hope I can follow her example and always be interested in things new and different. I think she cared for me and I really cared for her. I will miss her.

Your friend sounds like a true blessing straight from the Lord.

I, too, enjoyed a rewarding friendship with an elderly sister-in-Christ, who has now gone off home to heaven - three summers back. How I miss the wonderful fellowship the good Lord blessed us with. I am thankful for the knowledge that one day I will be able to visit with Gerry again. I am convinced that she will be one of the first ones to greet me at the Pearly Gates when my assigned work here on planet Earth is finished. emoticon

Gerry's beloved husband died when Gerry was in her early fifties & part of what I so admired about her was how she kept his memory alive for almost forty years of widowhood.

May we both take the best of what our dear friends taught us by example & share the same with others the good Lord brings into our lives.

    God bless!

I am sorry for your loss but thankful for the many years of friendship you had with your friend. Perhaps you could start a scrapbook or something to remember her by and also so that the grieving process is not so hard. Having just put my 2 1/2 year old kitten to sleep on Oct 28, I decided I'd work on projects that included him and the other 2 cats I had before him to remember the good times and be happy while I was working. You are in my prayers.

Thank you for posting this blog. You say so beautiful story. You friend was amazing woman and you give us to know her. I think and I am sure most people are agree with it that every one is unique, special. We are all celebrities. Just Sparks.
I was not around a little bit, so i read it late, sorry about it. It was very good to read your post. I am always worry what will happen with me. I am not American. I do not want my boys care for me when I am not able to care for myself. But I think it is OK.

Thank you for Goodies. I was a little bit upset. Sometimes it happened. But I realized I do not want to give up my SP friends. I need you. So I am back. I put my page back to public and put off my e-mail box that now people will not send e-mail to me. Sometimes I do not like it.

    Feel good. Best. NS emoticon

I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend - what a wonderful example she set for anyone she met! Through your grief at her loss, try to think of the joy in the future when you are reunited. It doesn't make it any less hard now - but gives you a light to look forward to when the grief eases....

Love and tight hugs tonight from
