Yoga Among the Strawberries
Friday, July 10, 2009
Yesterday I missed my aerobic dance class to go strawberry picking. It's near the end of the season, and yesterday was my first opportunity to get to the field. Got the two kids up and out of the house bright and early (grumbling, but cooperative). We ended up picking 43 pounds in 2 hours. Not bad! I've been thinking lately about some of the recent SP articles I've read that mention increasing activity throughout your day. So there I was in the strawberry field, on my hands and knees, and I thought about the yoga position, table. Then I thought, I could probably raise my knee opposite to my hand. I don't know the name, but I know it's a yoga pose, too. Then, when I had to scoot up the row, I did a one-armed plank, making sure to alternate arms each time I moved. Then to mix things up, I got off my knees for a time and did squats to move down the row. At first, I wondered what other people thought if they saw me, but then I figured they were too busy looking for berries to bother paying attention to me. So, I missed cardio but got in some strengthening moves.
