What I Love About St. Monica Whose Feast Day is Tomorrow

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

I love the fact that St. Monica followed her son Augustine around and prayed for him daily until he finally changed his ways and became a practicing Christian. In his youth he enjoyed life a little too much. He did whatever he pleased, whatever made him feel good. His mother never gave up on him. His feast day is Friday. He is an even more important saint than his mother. But it is his mother who persevered in praying and challenging him to lead a better life because of her strong faith in God.

If there is someone in your life who is in need of your prayers, whether they know it or not, keep praying for them. Be a St. Monica to them.

I love Saint Monica too. It's just a reminder to never give up. To be persistent in prayer and know that God will answer you in the perfect moment. Saint Augustine is a favorite too. I love the prayer that is traditionally attributed to him in his youth, "Lord help me to be pure, but not yet." emoticon Always makes me smile.

Reminds me of Job who made sacrifices for his children in case they were doing wrong. How important it is for us to pray for our children to walk with the Lord!

My eldest daughter is Monica. She doesn't believe in God.
