Love what is it anyway?

Saturday, September 05, 2009

You get a new pair of shoes you just LOVE, you wear then once or twice and realize that your feet hurt when you wear them. You put them way back in the corner of the closest and you don't wear them again. Did you stop loving them? Or do you just dislike one thing about them more then you love one of the other things?

You have a pair of jeans that you bought because they were on sale. They not your favorite, but it seems like when you have them on just seem to be comfortable and just flow with your every move. These are the jean you get out when you know a tough day ahead. Do you love these jean or just like them?

You get a new puppy, you love spending the days training him and working with him. He is right there anytime you need him. Then one day you have a bad day at the office you get home and the dog is right in your face, you push him away go to your room and shut the door. Do you now not love spending time with him or did you just need time to think? Then you come out of your room he is happy to see you again.

I do love my family and friends. They are the jeans I love to wear when I need to be comfortable, they are the puppy that still loves you even when you need to be alone for awhile.

Love is it looks or is it a feeling?

I really enjoyed this blog. It made me consider semantics. The English language is really quite limited in regards to the words we use to express how much we like/love/enjoy/adore/lust/care about something. So we (over)use "love" to express many flavors of these feelings that are really quite different from each other. In regards to people, particularly my husband when I'm utterly angry about something he's done or said, I think about how much I love him, but how much I dislike him at that time. So with your puppy, you always love him, but at times when your mood won't allow you to enjoy certain aspects, you almost dislike him until you feel balanced again and can enjoy/like him again. This is the wonderfully complex side to human emotions, and I'm so grateful and appreciative that we can express them.

The truest love here is definitely the puppy... Like others have said, his love for you is unconditional. Regardless, the fact that we can find pleasure in any of the things you have mentioned means that we are basically positive people who try to find joy in all things. Maybe that's part of what love is as well... Either way, this was a wonderful blog!

    Blessings to you...

Unconditional Love is when the puppy loves you all the time regardless of what you do to it. Just like our Lord who loves us when we are bad. emoticon blog.

For your question, the Puppy is the only one that loves here unconditionally - to me, that is true love! All the rest is conditional love that humans grow up doing. As we mature, we learn to love first our children, no matter what they do, however much we dislike their actions, we love them anyway. Then, when they fly the coop, you learn to love your DH in the same manner which you did until the honey moon and problems started cropping, your love turned into conditional love!! From children, DH, extended family, church, community, etc. we learn to expand this unconditional love to all. This is the real achievement that we all should reach....finally! Not an easy task, I'm still struggling!!!!!
