How to come back after being sick?

Saturday, October 10, 2009

For the past few weeks, I've been snowed under by a respiratory virus that turned into bronchitis. I've tried to keep up with some excercise, but I can't do nearly the same level of intensity as I had built up to. I'm feeling a bit frustrated, and wondering if others have experienced the disappointment of getting derailed after finally getting to a place where you felt fit and strong. I'm so nervous that it will feel like I'm starting all over again when I can finally exercise with the intensity I did before I was sick. Did anyone ever go through this? Does it take seemingly forever to start feeling healthy and strong again?

Hi - I'm sorry you're feeling so crappy! I hope by the time you read this, you're feeling much better.
I had bronchitis last year and I remember how frustrating it was that it took so long to go AWAY! The advice about listening to your body is really the way to go. Do not be afraid to take it very easy. It's not "slacking" - it's healing. It's important.
I found that drinking tea made from boiling water and slices of fresh ginger really cleared out my lungs (and sinuses, too). It seems to speed healing of these respiratory things.
    Feel better soon!

Been there. Start slow back into your routine. Let your body talk to you. Increase as you feel stronger.

Walk around the block, take it at your own pace. When you feel you can do an intense work out you will, but just get better right now.
