An Apple A Day Gives a Good Doctor Report

Thursday, October 29, 2009

I had my 6 month check-up with the doctor today which always makes me a little anxious beforehand, but it was a great visit today.

First my weight was exactly what it was when I was in in September because I was sick and that was the lowest weight I ever had at the doctor so she is very happy about that (she calls me skinny minny now). Then came the blood pressure reading which makes me the most nervous because a year ago it was sky high and I was on strong medicine and next stop being the cardiologist. Today it was 120/76 and I'm not on medication any more for almost a year so I was really happy about that reading - best I ever had at the doctor in the last 25 years!
Then I gave the doctor a spark card and told her "You've been sparked". She was very pleased with the info I gave her about spark and is going on it as soon as she can and she wants me to bring in several cards next time so she can hand them out to her patients! I told her how much I enjoy my apple with naturally more peanut butter and look forward to having that every morning (she suggested that for me last year at this time) and that spark told me about that brand and showed her the ingredients on the jar that I brought and she was very impressed. I asked if I could have more than 1 apple a day and she said 3 or 4 is great so I will be having more apples and getting even better doctor reports!
I also told her that I've been becoming more and more interested in marathons from all the spark articles and blogs and message boards and she said the new me should do all the marathons I want and I told her a goal would be the Chicago marathon and she said "Go for it"! She told me to start training with a program at my health club (she also went in to the health club a few months ago and told them what a great job they were doing making me so much healthier with their exercise program). She said the girl I used to see at my office could never have done that but the one sitting here now certainly can! (My doctor was the one that got me started with walking 10,000 steps a day last year and had ordered me to get a pedometer to track it and now my high one day step total is over 21,000 steps!)
I also told her I had recently been asked to be a co-leader on the Grandmother's Fitness team and she said I should definitely do that so today I responded back and am now a leader! I am so excited about the physical change that my doctor is raving about and this has all been in one year! I have gotten so much from spark that I hope I can share with others and they can experience the enormous change that is possible at any age. My doctor said that all these changes have saved my life and I agree - I feel 30 years younger than I did a year ago!
