One Year Anniversary

SparkPeople came onto my radar one year ago, on November 16, 2008. I don't remember how I found SparkPeople, but I remember that I thought it looked cool, plus it was free, so I joined.

First, I set up my SparkPage, which I now need to re-visit and update, and I began tracking a few things here and there as time permitted. Today I am a multiple-times-daily Sparker.

I thought I knew a lot about diet and nutrition, and kind of I did, but I have learned so much more. There is a depth to my knowledge base now. And even after one year, I am still learning new things, most especially about how to make this site work for me. For example, one feature that I am just now finding out how to get the most out of the Nutrition Tracker. This is going to make a huge difference in what I eat. The visual, full-color breakdown of your daily food intake in a pie chart is awesome! And then breaking down the day's calories by Fat, Protein, Carbs, etc., is a fabulous nutrition lesson. For those of us who are visual learners, the Nutrition Tracker is the very definition of A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words!

Setting goals is nothing new. I've set them hundreds of times, and I've broken them hundreds of times. But now I'm accountable to the SparkTeams that I have joined. That takes goal setting and accountability to a new level! And SparkStreaks are a visual record of how well you are maintaining the goals that you have set for yourself.

There are so many more features that keep me coming back day after day, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the people, many of whom are now my SparkFriends. They are there for me, and hopefully I am there for them. But even those SparkPeople who are not listed on my SparkPage are still my SparkFriends and are there for me whether they know it or not. I look forward to reading their blogs or seeing them on the message boards. It's very encouraging to know that others are on this journey, too, and together we can and will make it to our goal weight and our healthiest life.

Thank you SparkPeople for an awesome website, and for an amazing journey this past year. I can't wait to see what the next year holds!
