The running bug is back

Monday, January 04, 2010

I had a decent run today on the treadmill...yay the treadmill, not my first choice of running but it is winter and I am in Michigan. The roads are just too icy in my I hit the curb twice today (in the car)...duh! going too fast in my turn, and going to fast coming down to the end of the street...too fast as being 10-15 mph. No warm up in sight to help melt this ice...salt trucks you ask? ya right....seems to be a salt shortage here in Gd. Blanc. My Yak tracks and my winter running gear is looking sad and lonely as it wants to be used **sigh** My running gear is just hanging there over my the rocking chair waiting and wanting to be used. It's been a long while since I have had this longing feeling for running. I haven't been outside running since...ohhhh, never long ago and lets just say it would of been easily shorts weather. I do actually perfer winter running, not sure on that one cause I HATE and I mean HATE-DESPISE winter HATE the cold, HATE the snow, HATE the ice, did I mention that I HATE the cold??? What I LOVE about the winter running, I'm the only one out there running, it's just me and myself. I can hear every hit of the road, every breath I take, the scraping sound as the Yak Track as they hit pavement instead of the snow/ice. Even the birds are snuggled down deep inside their nest....sigh...I do need a slight warm up though. I will not be stupid like I was in the past and go and run on this icy stuff...pulled muslces are not fun and being side-lined again would not be good for my mental state....but this running bug is back! emoticon

I feel the same as you right now about running. I don't want to risk injury by running outside and don't have a treadmill. I'm solving the problem by running in place during my WATP dvd's. It gets my heart rate up and gets my legs back in shape for running when it's safer out there. We are supposed to get 12 inches of snow over the next 24 hours and it's bitter cold here too.

Tracy, I'm so glad that you are feeling more like yourself again. And running is running, so congrats to you for doing it!! Have no fear the cold, snow and ice can't last forever. You will be out there running in no time.

I know there's a recession on, but you'd really think they'd put forth the effort to get out the salt. Gotta be cheaper than having people crash into streetlights.

There are a couple of streets on my usual route that are basically skating rinks! (And, unfortunately, on hills, just to make it extra exciting.)
