What is a workout?

Friday, January 15, 2010

I printed the training schedule for the Race to Robie Creek and have been following it on my running days for 2 weeks now - even with the incline. Whew!! I went back to the website, read all the training tips given and was very impress with this section. So I thought I'd share it.

What is a workout?

• A workout is 25% PERSPIRATION and 75% DETERMINATION. Stated in another way, it is one part physical exertion and three parts self-discipline. Doing it is easy once you get started.
• A workout makes you better today than you were yesterday. It strengthens the body, relaxes the mind, and toughens the spirit. When you work out regularly, your problems diminish and your confidence grows.
• A workout is a personal triumph over laziness and procrastination. It is the badge of a WINNER- The mark of an organized, goal-oriented person who has taken charge of his or her destiny.
• A workout is a wise use of time and an INVESTMENT in excellence. It is a way of preparing for life’s challenges and proving to yourself that you have what it takes to do what is necessary.
• A workout is a key that helps unlock the door to Opportunity and success. Hidden within each of us is an extraordinary force. Physical and mental fitness are the triggers that can release it.
• A workout is a form or REBIRTH. When you finish a good workout you don’t simply feel better; YOU ARE BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF.

Makes you really think!! Along with KATMOMMA3 & MSWEEZER, I plan to put in a LONG run/walk this weekend. I'm shooting for 4 1/2 hrs in preparation for the Robie. I'll be doing mine on Sunday (without the incline this time). I'll keep you posted on how I do.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I like that! I copied it so I can save it and remind myself of what a workout is.
I'm not training for that run but a 15 mile walk on Mark 21st at White Sands for the Bataan Death March Memorial. It will be in sand! UGH. But I'm working toward that and also plan on a long walk/hike this weekend to help prepare myself! Hope you enjoy yours this weekend.

I really loved reading that. A lot of times when I don't want to work out at first, but then I make up my mind to get to it, they end up as some of my best and determined workouts and I am the most proud of those workouts.
