A Tribute to my Sister-in-law Barb

Saturday, February 20, 2010

Today my heart is laden with sorrow as we have just gotten word this morning that my sister-in-law Barb passed away last night after years of struggling with emphysema. As a person with Asthma myself, I know what it is like to struggle for oxygen and know the fear that every breath I fight for could be my last. This lady did this everyday for several years and was on oxygen and a constant supply of steroids to keep her going. I just can't begin to tell you how traumatic it is to go through this yet Barb stayed positive and up beat through it all. I admired her with all my heart and soul because I am not sure I could have been that brave. Barb always managed a smile and a joke and always worried about others around her. She was one of the most giving and unselfish people that I knew.
I remember when my brother-in-law brought her to our home and I first met her. She was a very tiny little lady with a heart the size of Texas. They met through a singles ad in a local electric company and I guess that was an "electric" meeting indeed as they were married shortly after their initial meeting. My brother-in-law said that he had met his soul mate and she felt the same way. They loved riding motorcycles and spent many days riding with the sun and wind in their faces. They were so good for each other and so happy together!
We are saddened by this event that we all knew would come someday but in my heart I know she is resting easy and every breath she is taking in heaven today is without labor. Knowing that helps to put my sorrow at ease and I know the Lord will see to it that her days in heaven will be good and she will finally find peace.
Please take a few minutes of silent prayer for Barb and for my brother-in-law who is suffering from the biggest loss in his life.
Thank you my dearest spark friends for taking the time to read this and for your loyal support. I am forever grateful to all of you and I thank God each and every day that I share with you all!! God bless!
Ruth

Peace be with you our precious Barb!

To you and your family, I am so sorry for your loss. What a horrible way to go. At least there is comfort knowing she is not suffering now, even though she will be deeply missed. Let God carry you through this time of grief. Friends forever.......Jackie (wilson)

So sorry for your loss, Ruth. I will be praying for your brother in law, it will be a rough road for him. What a blessing to be able to picture her breathing freely without effort for the first time in a long time--that is at least some comfort. Hang in there!

Ruth, please know that you, Barb and your brother-in-law are in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time.

I think it appropriate to quote what you wrote to me only a couple of weeks ago, because it really helped me with my loss and it may help your family also:

"I am so sorry for the loss of such an inspiring and wonderful friend. One can reflect and thank God for having the opportunity to have known this beautiful friend. Friends like that come to us once in a life time. It is good to find a positive side to these negative things that will undoubtedly come to us in our life time. You are being very strong!!! I am glad your weight is going in the direction we are all hoping for and you will be at your goal in no time!! Hang in there and thank you for calling on your spark friends for support. Not only can we get healthy with SparkPeople but we are like a family support system. This is SO good!! Take care dear spark buddy!! We are here for you!! Ruth emoticon

Oh, Ruth, I am sad to hear this news. Barb sounds like a very lovely person and you have given her a fine tribute. It is so hard to lose loved ones!

It does not seem to matter if we are expecting the death of a dear one due to illness, there is really no preparation for their departure.

Sending you big love, and heart healing energy.
