Weekends, ugh

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

I have really got to get better about tracking my food on the weekends. This weekend I did not track a single thing from Friday all the way through Sunday. So I have no idea what my calories and such ended up looking like. It is bringing my healthy points total WAY down on our challenges and I don't like that! Something to work on, it's a continual goal.

I went to Friendly's for breakfast yesterday morning with my son. I discovered that Friendly's really doesn't have a single healthy thing on their breakfast menu! I ordered the healthiest thing I could find--the Garden Vegetable Omelette. I didn't think to ask if I could get Egg Beaters since they weren't on the menu, but later I found out I could have--that would probably have cut the calories and fat by a lot. My omelette had over 500 calories and 43 g of fat--and that was without any of the side items! And yet I know I made one of the healthier choices on the menu--I did not have any meat with the meal at all, and just a little butter on my toast as opposed to drowning a pancake or french toast in butter and syrup.

As if their breakfast options weren't already unhealthy enough, Friendly's now offers pancakes and french toast that are topped with a scoop of ice cream! Ugh. I think I'll stick to Bob Evans if I want to go out to breakfast from now on. They have a really nice "Fit From the Farm" menu with eggbeaters, lowfat yogurt, turkey sausage, etc on it.

I did manage 25 minutes on the elliptical yesterday afternoon, and 10 minutes on the UBE (upper body ergometer--it's like a bicycle for your arms!). Then I went to chorale rehearsal and we did choreography all night! So hopefully, I burned off some of that huge breakfast I ate. Lesson learned, I won't do that again!

This week's goal: go to the gym every weekday and try to get up to or over 30 min on the elliptical. That won't happen today because it's a weight training day (my son can only be in the youth fitness center for an hour, so if I do 30 min or more of cardio I don't have time to get in all my machines) but I have high hopes for tomorrow! :)

When in a eating out situation we have to just make as good of a food choice as possible. Don't get down on yourself. As was already mentioned today is a new day don't beat yourself up about yesterday.

Good job on the workouts. I second (or is that third) the unable to use the Elliptical. I can get it to move but it is way too hard on my knees.

Julie--I don't use the "real" elliptical--I have a hard time with it too! I feel stupid when I get on it because I can't make it work. I use this thing called an "Arc Trainer"--it's a Cybex machine. I think it's very similar to the elliptical, but for some reason it's easier for me to work. ;)

eating out does make it difficult, but hey, I look forward to my one day a week of a "not cooked by me" meal. As long as you are choosing as healthy as possible, then go for it - and if you have to, eat half and take the rest home for lunch or something.

Good luck on the elliptical goal - I haven't been to a gym in a long time, but the last time I was there, I COULD NOT work that machine for the life of me, something about it, I don't know, but I look like a fool and could never do more than maybe 5 minutes at most. My legs just never would cooperate on that thing, so I am impressed that you (and anyone else that can) are able to do it and do it for so long - keep up the great work there!

I feel your pain, I was horrible this weekend too. I ate so much I thought I was going to burst. But the good news is today is a brand new day for us to get it together. It's hard when you go out to eat, but I think you did okay in your choice. You gave me the idea to ask for turkey bacon, and egg beaters. I never even thought about them before. Thanks!

Congratulations on passing the 25lbs mark!
