Guardian Angel and Space Heaters

My guardian angel must really love me.
We bought a space heater at the beginning of the cold season. It was one of those neat things with several heat settings, a timer, auto on/off, etc. It worked great as we spend most of our time in the front half of the condo and shut off the rest until bedtime. (Hey, at 900 sq ft, it's easy to shut half off.) Anyway, that little sucker ran almost non-stop for the last several months. We even let it run overnight when David had to sleep in his LayZBoy with his CPAP.
When we had that last cold snap here in Houston, David turned the heater back on one afternoon. After just a few minutes a horrible smell filled the entire house so he unplugged it. It smelled like melted plastic. We couldn't find anything on the heater that looked damaged and we just left it on the end table.
Being the incredible housekeeper I am, I finally decided this evening to remove the heater (yeah, almost a week AFTER the darn thing acted up). My intention had been to find a place to store it. That is, until I saw the surge protector it was plugged into. Needless to say, the heater is now being stored...in the dumpster.
See? My guardian angel loves me.
