Necessary preparations for walking

One of the things I love most about walking for exercise is that, besides comfortable shoes, you don't need anything. Well, maybe sun glasses, a cell phone, a bottle of water, and a pedometer. But really nothing else.
Well, now I have to be sure my face and hair are presentable. Last week an old acquaintance honked at me from across an intersection. The other night a friend from my church asked me about my route because he had seen me. Then this afternoon another friend from church pulled up next to me to exchange hellos (I need to find a way to tell this sweet older gentleman that it creeped me out until I recognized him!).
Do I really have spend time primping just to walk? I'm kidding. I'm really not that vain and would go about without makeup on a regular basis if I hadn't inherited my looks from the Irish folks in my tree.
I still love that walking requires so little in preparation or props. But I would love to have one of those things that took the place of the Walkman.
