long time no see!

So I haven't stopped working out or trying, but what I had stopped for a while was counting calories and Sparking. That clearly hasn't been working out for me. My weight has been bouncing between the same 3-4 pounds up and down now for about a month and a half--I think I ended the last challenge only a couple pounds lighter than where I started it! That's got to change and here's what I've noticed.
When I don't write down what I eat, I don't necessarily eat more food. In fact, when I go back and write it down, sometimes I find that I have eaten less than my recommended calories for the day. But what I don't write is little snacks here and there. A couple of M&Ms. A handful of jelly beans from the kid's easter basket. "Just that one" cookie at the party, or after church, or whatever. I also don't eat nearly as many fruits and veggies when I don't write. My lunch normally when I haven't been writing down my food has been a Lean Pocket with some Pop Chips or something like that--not bad by any means, but not good! Yesterday I had a ham and low fat cheese sandwich on a bagel thin with strawberries, baby carrots, and sugar snap peas on the side! Huge difference. I think today Jamie and I are going to hit Subway for lunch on the way to the grocery store. I'm looking forward to getting a sub with a ton of veggies on it.
I have been changing up my exercise routine lately as well. I had been kind of slacking off on my cardio and it was for not entirely a bad reason. I work out at the Y. They have several different types of tracking cards for the weight machines. When I started back in January, I had been using the "Basic 8" weight training card. 8 simple machines to do to get you started on the weight training circuit. Well, it had gotten to the point where there were many other things I was wanting to add in, so I finally moved up to the "Signature Series" card which contains pretty much all the machines. So trying to do nearly all the machines plus get cardio done in the hour that I have for working out (because Jamie can only spend an hour in the Youth Wellness Center) just wasn't happening. I've decided that now on my weight training days, I'm going to do either upper body + core or lower body + core and then do 30 minutes of cardio. So yesterday, I did upper body + core and then rode 4 miles on the stationary bike (not quite 30 minutes, it was 25, but my butt was numb!). Today is a straight cardio day and I think I'll probably use the arc trainer.
Complicating all of this, my heavy use of the recumbent bike in the early days of working out appears to have given me a slight tailbone injury. I have pretty much all of the signs of it, so it's time to adjust the way I'm sitting when I'm on the couch at night, and no more recumbent bike for a while!
I'm hoping all these changes will pay off big time in our current challenge. I am 100% determined to be under 300 lbs by the time that it is over! That is only a little more than 10lbs, which is quite doable in 6 weeks. One of those weeks I will be at my mom's, but she is completely supportive of my efforts and I'm going to ask her ahead of time to stock up on some of the basic stuff I eat now (such as Skinny Cows, fresh fruit/veggies, etc) so as long as I can stay away from Sonic, I should be ok! (We don't have a Sonic here, so when I go to my mom's I usually want to go there. I am going to limit it to just one visit this time and try to make healthier choices from the menu--that's realistic, whereas not going at all would just make me sad!)
