Re-thinking Milk

Saturday, July 10, 2010

I LOVE MILK!!! WHOLE MILK, but I've learned to drink 2% milk because of the calories. I've just discovered a way to drink fat-free milk....smoothies! I love smoothies but don't like the mixes and the ones commercially sold are not always calorie friendly. Two years ago I bought a smoothie make that I've never used. I finally decided to use it. Yesterday I had a blackberry/banana smoothie and this morning I had blueberry/banana. I freeze the berries overnight. In the morning I add a cup of milk, the frozen berries and a banana to the blender and in a few minutes I have a nutritious breakfast that includes two servings of fruit and one serving of milk! I never thought it would be so easy! Tomorrow I will have strawberry/banana! While the fat-free milk is good for the smoothies, I honestly don't think I will EVER be able to enjoy it with cereal.

I have issues with most Milk. I can highly recommend a Dairy Beverage- Carb Hood, it comes in a low sugar and tastes, cooks, wonderfully and keeps shelf life for up to a MONTH! I also like the Almond and Soy Milks too. And my tip for Smoothies? to get them thick without adding bananas or Ice, Freeze the Yogurt Servings ahead of time, slightly thaw or heat for a min. in the Microwave before adding to the Blender! emoticon

I use 1% milk... it's thicker than skim but still good on the calories and fat! Mmmm, smoothies... maybe I'll give that a try!
