As many of you know, I spent last week in Cooperstown with my son Bryan.
His team was playing in a baseball tournament there. And what a wonderful experience! I could go on and on and probably should of done a daily blog for each day but, here’s a quick summary! We arrived up there Friday night and I got to spend some nice Mom/Son time.
Saturday morning he checked into bunkhouse with the rest of the team and coaches. He has such a nice group of goof balls on his team and I’m sure there was not much sleeping that first night! The coaches are also just such and awesome bunch of guys! The one coach gave all the boys unique haircuts! (see my page for picture of my son’s haircut!) Coach is a police officer and shaved some heads, carved baseball seams, mohwaks, etc! And the word of the week was definitely HOOAAH!
They had opening ceremonies and the parents had cheering competition. We were SO prepared for this with matching t-shirts, pom-poms, etc. One of our Mom’s wrote a great cheer and it was down to our team and one other and the other team won because they had a trumpet player! *We got trumped!!* And soo jipped out of that trophy! Haha!
Sunday the boys had two games and they won both! We were off to a great start! Some parents were staying on-site and we all just went to the pool and hung around in between games. Monday the team went 1-1. Tuesday was also a 1-1 day. In between those two games the team went to the lake and were rowing canoes and paddleboats and swimming for a few hours. I can’t believe the boys had energy left to play ball that night! The big news of that day was my son hit a three run homerun! He also pitched an inning and struck out two!
Did you all hearing me screaming?? haha....it was such an unforgettable moment!
Wednesday was the start of the playoffs (single elimination round) and we won the first game! This put us up against an undefeated team. Well, we ended up winning that game 7-6!! It was such an exciting game and our boys really showed how much heart they have! By the third game, we were out of pitching and the boys were just plain ole tired out! We lost that game and finished 5th out of 24 teams! Thursday we visited the Baseball Hall of Fame and the boys really enjoyed that.
I got A LOT of fitness in while I was there…walkign and climbing so many hills everywhere! They did have hayrides that would take you down and up from the fields but, I only took the ride once just for fun! I know my son and I will never forget that week!
