Entered First 5K and water intake

Thursday, September 02, 2010

Well Tuesday night my Biology class room was locked so our whole class was sitting in the hall when two students came around and started changing the bulletin board. We were all watching them and I noticed they were putting out fliers and such for a Mustang 5K run/walk. I did not get up and get a flier but the girl beside of me did!!!

Well we started talking about how we had both wanted to do it but did not have anyone to do it with so we right then and there filled out the entry form, wrote a check and left the science building to drop them off with the Phi Theta Kappa organization (They are sponsoring the run).

I have never been more excited or scared.

We met yesterday after work and walked for an hour (we are both out of shape)

So I really have no idea what to expect. The run is not until October 30th so that gives me time to work on my couch to 5K app I just got.

Wish me luck

Oh. and I drank 8 glasses of water yesterday and I could not stay out of the restroom. On number 4 right now and have went to the restroom around 15 times. Is that normal????

The Couch to 5K program is wonderful to start training for your 1st race.

Good for you - both on the 5K and the water. It's great that you have a training partner.

Nice bold move. It shows you are serious.

I am not much of a runner any more....too hard on the knees for me...so I stick to walking.

As to the restroom...what goes in has to come out.

    Hi,
I'm so proud of you for entering the 5K. Entering it is your first step toward falling in love with running.

I started running in January and ran my first 5K in March. It was so exciting crossing that finish line after not running since unwilling doing so in high school over 25 years ago.

The way I did my training is by using podcasts on the Couch to 5K program. You will also see it as C25K. The podcasts talk you through your runs and start you out running only 60 seconds at a time. You'll swear the first run will never end, but you'll be amazed as you progress until you can eventually you find yourself running 20 minutes and although tired you can do it and not want to die.

The link for C25K program is http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2

The link to find the podcasts is

Of course there are other podcasts out there. This is the one I used and I enjoyed it.

I wasn't totally done with the program when I ran my 5K but I was able to complete it with no problem. I will be running a 1/2 marathon at Disneyland this Sunday and without C25K I never would have thought I could do it.

Oh. By the way. Yes. Drinking that much water makes you get up constantly during the night. If you keep it up your body will grow used to it and you will only need to get up once or twice after about a week.

Good luck on your training. I know you're going to do great!!!

YEAH!! Great job on signing up for the 5k! So awesome! You will find yourself in the bathroom often when you first start upping your water intake! I felt like I may as well have moved my desk to the bathroom at work! LOL.
