diet fatigue

Monday, September 27, 2010

I notice that I can get tired of making the best choice in each place, each meal, and especially when dining out. The nice part is that portion control has gotten easy. Meal planning has gotten easy. And most of the time I have some healthy automatic choices and a good rubric for including healthy options. I've never liked the concept of "cheat days" because it sets up entitlement and can screw with my attitude on my disciplined days. The diet fatigue is an attentional thing, and just like we need sleep or need to take a break from concentrating, I find that I fatigue from concentrating too much on diet can wig me out when it comes to those events or times when there is something off the plan. Now, saying that, I intend to have excellent control over Halloween candy and Thanksgiving, but I don't intend to have these be totally devoid of participation and dessert. I think what I'm trying to say is that moderation, moderation, moderation is getting me through diet fatigue. It's a much shorter bounce back than the indulging and gorging detour!

Moderation - or "the middle way".......one of the biggest challenges..ever. Sounds like a good choice. ........phew..........

    Meta moderation? Is that possible?

Moderation, moderation, moderation is truly one of the keys to success. Diet fatigue can be a stressful feeling........how about looking at this experience as a healthy lifestyle change that just keeps on going. I've managed to include many foods within my calorie count weekly that just wouldn't fit in a "diet". I use portion control and don't feel deprived and am learning that 1 chocolate kiss just tastes better than a handful..........really.......I'm not lying........I take one kiss and let it melt in my mouth.......concentrating on just how good it is, have a sip of coffee and just smile because I can eat just one.......(most of the time) emoticon
