I'm going to the hospital today. A friend woke up not feeling well and was sent from the doc to the hospital by ambulance. The suspected link is the diet she went on. She went to one of those "physician supervised" programs where they give you vitamin shots and have a severely restricted diet. The appetite suppressant they use is an amphetamine [shudder]. This friend is having problems with her heart. My daughter had talked to another friend on the diet -- she lost all the weight and her appendix blew -- and the report was that this friend "coded" 3 times to date. Oh G-d! She had originally reduced over 100 pounds on that diet, but nothing in her attitude about food and exercise had really changed.
This is where you start appreciate SP and doing it the old fashioned way with a focus on calories in, calories burned.
Today starts week 9 of my countdown to the New Year. I'm off-track, aided by the Disney Food and Wine fest (those country booths don't sell many salads!). This event was followed by another carb loaded meal event the next day. So, I'm now craving the carbs, I'm over due for exercise, and I have to wrestle myself back into the discipline that was showing progress on the scale. It only takes me three days to undo 3 weeks of progress!
The nice part is that my body is craving the exercise! I stretched in bed and wanted yoga! I'll get to something today and start turning this whole carb thing around. I won't have alcohol for while and that will help. It's interesting how reducing intake can help you see the effects more clearly. I'm much more tired the next day after moderate alcohol consumption. I can't quite afford the fatigue as it interferes with exercise! I didn't notice that effect as much as I do now.
So, I'm praying for my friend and I'm looking at the sanest ways for me to get back on track. Enjoy your choices everybody!
