Cleveland Fabulous Food Show

Sunday, November 14, 2010

Yes indeed, the Fabulous Food Show in Cleveland was deee-lish, and very interesting! We walked at least 3 miles, some of it at a brisk pace (e.g., looking for restrooms in the immense I-X Center!), but I have no idea how many calories or nutrients I consumed in the form of samples. One bite at a time can add up to quite a bit after 4 hours. We actually did have Greek gyros for dinner and I drank bottled water all day. It's the one-bite samples I can only guess at, nutrition-wise. I tried to stick with protein (lite cheese and low-fat sausage samples) and tasted only one tiny wafer of dark chocolate. I doubt my sampling total for the day exceeded 300 calories because I was very choosy and only took about 6 samples altogether. But I didn't log it because I have no facts, and we only go to this show once a year. I did log the gyro, estimating as best I could. Alton Brown's demo/show was very educational as expected, with his theme being salt (one of his favorites)! I had to laugh when we took our seats & saw the token gift on each seat was a small container of kosher salt! At any rate, if anyone lives near Cleveland, I highly recommend taking in this show at least once. I found Ariston Olive Oil, the best (award winning) Greek olive oil I've ever tasted there, and have been buying it online for a year. Also found some VERY hotsy-totsy salsa (also award winning) made by "Global Warming Salsa" ... cute name, eh? Now I have enough olive oil for the whole winter and some to share! So there you have it ... that's my capsule report on the Fabulous Food Show and the benefits (and pitfalls) of attending, the most important being just to have a good time emoticon

I would have to agree with LENORE048, I would try everything. It did sound like you had a good time. I seem to be in the wrong place when I go to things that big and miss the good stuff, but then I don't always like crowds. It also sounds like you did a good job on the calories. Totally understand the BR runs. emoticon
Edited to add: Just noticed the date as over 2 years ago now(saw Nov 14th didn't pay attention that it was 2010 not 12 and thought it was a funway to forget the election). Bet you are surprised to get a comment this late. You don't add new blogs very often...neither do I.

It sounds like you had a fun time. I think we would enjoy it. We enjoy going to Costco on the weekends and sampling as we do our shopping. I sometimes get enough samples that I don't eat lunch! As for common sense, I don't have much when it comes to food! I am just learning how to eat less and exercise more. I don't keep goodies in the house because I will eat them! I don't go to buffets if I can avoid them because my best intentions do not work! I have switched from having desserts to having a cup of diet hot chocolate as a treat. I have learned a lot here on Spark and also from the stuff my husband has picked up from a medically supervised weight loss diet class that he is in. Congratulations for staying on track at a food event!

You always are up to something interesting and that day was no exception. I have a difficult time where there is food testing. I have to taste everything! I'm so happy you had a wonderful time.

Thank you for the comment ... I did the best I could to stay on target. I think just about any social function can fit in with a healthy lifestyle if we use a little common (or is it?) sense!

Sounds like a great time! I spent about a week in Cleveland with friends, seeing our Yankees play the Indians, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and taking in the sights and some R & R. We had a great time! The Fabulous Food Show sounds like fun! Also sounds like you stayed on track... emoticon !!
