s_to_get_the_results_you_want

The challenge for today was to read a motivational article and post a blog. I am assuming the blog needs to at least mention the article, so the link above is the article I read. It talks about rewards to get results. It says to reward the BEHAVIOR you want, not the result on the scale.

I have not been able to follow much of any kind of plan as of late, so I do not know what the reward would be.

I have recently recommitted to God (as you read in my last blog) and am spending time daily in His word and in prayer to Him. I think that doing that IS the reward really, like it rewards itself, if that makes sense? I feel better after doing so and I feel closer to God and my day goes better, etc..., so the "reward" automatically follows that. I only missed one day last week and I caught up on that yesterday. So, to go from hit and miss and many many days of nothing to reading and praying 6/7 days, is a huge improvement! It is hard to describe the peace I have felt just by implementing this back into my life. So, daily bible reading and prayer is something I want to continue in my life. I just need to get better at getting up early and getting it done, so that the rest of my day does not threaten that time.

Now, I just need to add something else. I usually start with water, but I am sick of doing that, it seems like a worn out, ineffective thing for me, as I have overused it?? Does that make sense? It used to work, but now it doesn't. A dear friend bought and sent me 4 exercise tapes probably over a year ago. On one of them, it has you start with 5 minutes, then 10, then 15 and so on until you work yourself up to 30 minutes. It has alot of flexibility work in it and stretching and since I have not really exercised since my accident Nov. 2009, I really need some flexibility. Basically, I just need to MOVE! To be honest, I have been so lazy since I finished student teaching, that my body is sore from sitting and laying so much and it is begging to be moved! SO, this week, I am going to start with 5 minutes/day. If I do more than that, then it is just icing on the cake, but the commitment is for 5 minutes of INTENTIONAL exercise. It may not sound like much, but my mind cannot wrap around much else right now, and I want to set myself up for success.

Now, how to reward that behavior? Not sure, but I am thinking about getting a book from our church library to read for pleasure as I have not been able to read for pleasure for MONTHS!!! Then, after and only after I do my exercise for the day am I free to read the book. I have to be careful to not get so engrossed that all I want to do is devour the book though. Any suggestions on that?

Now, for today, here is a list of some things I need to do and I will come back to update later:

1. Read bible and pray in journal ~ DONE
2. Exercise 5 minutes ~ DONE
3. Get dressed ~ DONE
4. Go with John to foot doctor ~ DONE
5. Make an appt. for Bekah ~ DONE (tomorrow at 3:40pm)

Hi Shanshe (Shannon!), This is only my second day and only my second post. Your picture was highlighted on the community message board page and I thought you are beautiful and I felt a connection. I am spiritual but not religious, hope you don't mind. I would love to join your Biggest Loser team. I love the show and try to watch as much as I can... I was crying so hard this week for what the parents did for their kids... anyway, you sound like you have a full and busy life... keep on and God Bless You... Sincerely, Riva

So glad you are in this rich time of opening to God, Shannon. You sound centered & grounded.

And the plan of starting with just 5 minutes of exercises & increasing incrementally is perfect! This morning I heard two radio reports on exercise's effects: (1) strength training helps us build muscle even as we get older (when muscle mass normally decreases), & (2) cardio exercise actually increases the size of the hippocampus in the brain in older people (normally it too shrinks year to year)! You aren't elderly, of course, but we're all getting older & can use all the strength & good memory we can get, right?

Thank you for this blog, Shan. I really needed to hear how you are actively pursuing God and all He has for you. You always THRIVE when you're reading the Word ~ I love the "sound" of the peace in your "voice" when you are spending time with GOd. :) Makes me happy!!!

Great song! (listening to it now) and list ~ you sound ready to tackle that 5 minutes, girl ~ emoticon

I am going to the fitness room with DH right now.
Listing it when I get back and I'll get on board with the pre-challenge.

    LOVE YOU!!!!!
