Ready to throw in the towel!

Friday, February 25, 2011

Just having an all around rotten week! I've been sick with a sore throat, congestion, coughing, but no fever, so I've been going to work. Work has been terribly stressful as we are down 3 positions...one because of no more funding/ and retirement, and two out on family medical leave. So two of us are doing the job formerly done by 5! I have been too miserable to exercise! Although, in general, I have been really great for the entire month of February, I haven't lost an ounce! I feel like just giving up! I feel like I work so hard to meet my fitness goals and have gotten no where since May /June. So in 9 months I've been at a standstill! I feel like I can't deal with this anymore!

You said yourself that you try so hard to meet your fitness goals. That is awesome, excellent work. You might not be losing weight, but you are certainly making your body healthier. And in stressful times, exercise is on your side -- easing stress. A fit body handles stress better, too.

Might I suggest weighing yourself once a week, rather than daily? It will remind you that it is the healthful, mindful eating and the regular exercise that will get you where you want to be. Hitting plateaus is hard to deal with -- believe me -- I know. If you drop the discouraging daily weigh-ins (never a good way to start the day:)) it might redirect your spirits to all that is good about your continuing efforts. You will become aware that: Yes, you ARE strong, you ARE fit, and you DO feel better when you eat clean.

Hang in there! And have a great week.

No Joann, don't talk like that! Don't give up! I have been on two plateau's in 3 months, lost a pound or two -then got sick and gained that back and a couple more pounds (was on prednisone, which causes weight gain) and keep yo-yoing that 4 pounds, flirting with my lowest weight for 5 weeks now. It is frustrating! But, you know, we have lost before, right and it will happen again. Be patient and maybe try something different, like less calories, what you eat or more exercise. I have been pretty good on mine for probably 90% of the time and this is ridiculous to not lose! Our bodies are complex! Hang in there! Glad you vented about it, because we are all here for you & in this together! emoticon emoticon

You are too worth it to give up. Give yourself time to recup from being sick, maybe take a little break and then regroup and refocus, maybe change some things around, but please, please do not give up on you. I know I was really doing great with my exercise for the past 2 months then a week ago today something happened to my right knee and I am doing no exercise, I adjusted my calories to a lower range and when I weighed this morning I had stayed the same, I don't know when I'll be able to get back into the exercise, but will just have to be patient and wait and see, it'll all work out. Do something relaxing this weekend and take care of you.

as for the illness, it is going all around right now, colds, flu and allergies, it will pass, but you are letting stress keep you sick....take a deep breath, look at the big picture. and dont give up or in.

Take a couple of deep breaths.........now say to your self..I WILL NOT QUIT ON MYSELF.......stress has gotten the best of you and you need to just let it pass.
Take a bubble bath, take a walk and try to cheer up. Setbacks are a part of life, but we don't need to bring us down to rock bottom....we need to pick ourselves up and continue going forward on our journey.........the scale is not always our friend and we can't measure our accomplishments by that number alone.
Please take care of yourself and please DON'T GIVE UP..... emoticon

Sounds like your week was really crummy.

Look at the progress you've made... and even if you're not losing right now, you're ahead of where you started, right? I think it's really great that you were able to do everything you've done at work, while feeling awful.

Cut yourself some slack. Do something nice for yourself-- a bubble bath after work tonight (and the steam might help your sinuses)? Sleep a little later tomorrow? Have a really nice cup of tea this evening? Take an extra half hour to read or something?

Celebrate your progress so far. If you stick with it, plateaus break, muscles get stronger, and eventually it pays off.

Stress doesn't help. Don't give up...continue to bring the Spark into your life, small steps...sometimes have to be minute by minute, but they add up eventually. Sending you positve thoughts, and remember the scale is only a tool.... emoticon emoticon

I can relate. I read somewhere about stress causing weight gain- or at least preventing its loss. Maybe that is a factor, but not exactly in our control. In nine weeks I have only lost 1.5 lbs so I get it. Still, what is the alternative? I work out every day and imagine punching away all those people causing me stress. I feed myself good food to nurture myself when no one else seems to. Don't give up! Going back. To old habits that did not make you happy isn't the answer here. I wish I had the answer...lol but I know giving up is not it - been there, done that.
