A Day At Elizabeth Lake
Saturday, February 26, 2011
Last Monday I was taking part of the "Great Backyard Bird Count" So my Hubby and I headed to Elizabeth Lake. There are always different birds that I don't normally see around here. It takes about 30 mins. to get there, and a beautiful drive. First thing I spotted before we were far from home. The Bison were at the front of the ranch, not far from the road. I had to stop and get new pics. This ranch is about 8 mins. from our home. Awesome. Alice was most disappointed I made her stay in the car.
We got to the lake, and thank goodness it was a sunny day, with blue skies. Just a few clouds. We saw some birds that we think are Canvasbacks.
American Coots were there.
Mallards, quack quack
A Spotted Sandpiper. I was trying to get a close up of the bird, but it flew off before I could get my camera situated.
There were a couple of Seagulls flying around.
Also two Turkey Buzzards was flying around. Only took a pic of one.
There was someone out in their boat fishing. It was a bit windy, but it didn't stop them.
We saw 5 Red Tailed Hawks. Most of them in pairs, which is good. Means there will be babies. Also there were 5 birds we have never seen in that area before. In doing research, I think they are Helmented Guinea fowl, but the birds were to far away to know for sure.
I am going to make a point of getting out to the lake more often. There are a variety of birds, there, and I haven't seen them all yet. Here is a link if you want to check out all of the birds in that area. Good variety!
