Strength training is calling

Saturday, March 05, 2011

And I sent it to voice mail today. The thought of it is however trapped in my grey matter and just might drive my neurotransmitters mad! I think I am finally on the verge of adding strengthtraining to my routine. It is time. I should be optimistic!
In high school I loved weight lifting so much I joined the weight lifting class. Unfortunately the only weight lifting class was for the High School football team. I somehow managed to get through that class gracefully and even outlifted some "little guys". LOL. The next year there were more girls who wanted to train and a womens weight training class was initiated.
So why then the hesitation now? I'm intimidated.
I'm so far beyond the recognition of my high school self it makes me blush. (Though I was always heavy set then as well). I'm intimidated by the masses of thin girls in spandex and sports bras at the gym and am cautious of their watching eye.
I remind myself today that it is not what they think. It is what I think! Only I am in charge of my joy. I will take the challenge and harness my happiness. Even if it is next to a size 2 in spandex with no shirt..just a sports bra and amazingly double or triple D's at that. LOL.

    Woo-Hoo for weightlifting!!!

Last year, I read the book "New Rules of Lifting for Women" and I haven't looked back. It took a bit of nerves the first couple of times I started lifing heavy at the gym, but more and more I'm seeing women walk past the pink Barbie weights and really focus on being strong. I love it!!

A fantastic place for real lifting motivation and inspiration is Mistress Krista's blog:

Inches lost + lean muscle mass + stregnth training (or heavy lifting, hihihi) = pounds lost. Go for it Sista, DO NOT let the others intimidate you.

Share something with you, at my gym, only a few know of my journey because I usually go at 06:00 weekedays, so when I do go on the weekends here they think I cannot lift....oh, but wait, she is doing dealifts at 95 lbs and off she goes doing 220 leg presses - 15 lbs bicep curls, etc. Dang she is strong emoticon .

Don't forget the only person you need to challenge & impress is YOU..... emoticon

First, CONGRATULATIONS on your awesome progress so far! You're doing an amazing job!

Second, I do hop you give weight training a try. It can really throw a fire under your metabolism... not to mention how wonderful it feels as your muscles get stronger and stronger.

And you are so right... forget those sz 2 chicks with the DD rack. Their opinions don't matter, their thoughts & glances don't matter and their presence doesn't matter either! You can do this!
