Shocking news

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

My mother was JUST diagnosed with lung cancer on March 19. on Monday, April 11th we learned that the cancer is at stage IV, and has already gone to her brain and lymph nodes. This was the most devastating news we have ever received and surprising since my mother has been healthy her WHOLE life. She smoked for twenty years, 33 years ago so who would have ever thought she would get lung cancer. I am speechless as I write this as I know the future is going to be hard. Please pray for my family during this difficult time. I am so thankful I have a place that I can go to, that helps distract my mind and keep reminding myself to keep myself healthy and eating the right foods.

Blessings to all of you...anyone that smokes, please get help. This is not a very fun road.

My BIL had the same type of cancer & he never smoked AT ALL. Not all lung cancers are smoking related-his doctor said that 40% of lung cancers are NOT related to smoking. My BIL wasn't even a canditate for chemo becuz it was too far advanced, already in his brain when he was diagnosed. Really sad!

I'm so sorry to hear of your news. I'll keep you & your family in my prayers.

Awhhh...my dear beautiful friend, I feel your pain and I share it, losing my dearest friend to colon cancer December 24th just last year. It is a horrible ordeal to go through and I will keep you and your family in my heart and prayers. Just shower your dear mother with love, I've learned after losing our most precious son, that love is all there is, and love is all there ever will be. Peace and much love is being sent your way! emoticon

emoticon and Prayers for you and your family. It might help if you don't blame smoking. She can't change her past. Blame makes our minds negative and angry. Now is the time to make her life and yours as positive as possible. It was shocking when my MIL was diagnosed with terminal cancer, so I have an idea of your emotions. Everyone reacts differently. We focused on making her feel loved and needed. We hugged and cried with her. That was positive because she (and we) needed to release our emotions. What helped most was asking questions about the best parts of her life. Her fear and pain eased a little as she told little stories of long forgotten memories, at least how she remembered them. In the end she had a peaceful heart. I hope you and your family find similar comfort in during your very difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear this devastating news about your mother. Just about eight years ago now, we learned the same thing about my mother, also a longtime reformed smoker, a person who exercised and who ate practically a perfect diet all her life. So I have an ideaof the mixture of shock, fear, and confusion you may be feeling. There's no one reason you can put your finger on. Cancer is a scourge of the modern world. I am keeping you in my thoughts.
