First Round

Friday, April 15, 2011

Wow, it's been a eventful nine days straight. Multiple appointments, scans etc. I've been with my parents everyday at the hospital and cooking for them as well. Despite I've been going non stop and I haven't been able to go to the gym but once, I wouldn't trade this time that I have been able to spend with them for anything. I've even surprised myself with all I've been able to do. I think the secret is that I always planned ahead all the meals and made sure I always took my snacks and fresh juices with me.
My mom had surgery this morning to put her port in and had her first round of Chemo. She seemed to do pretty well. They gave her alot of anti naseau medicine. She will come back in three weeks for the next round.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. Did she use artificial sweeteners? My sister was a heavy user of artificial sweeteners and passed away from cancer on Dec 2, 2010. I was able to spend 4 weeks with her in hospice, drove from Maryland to Wyoming to be with her. So I understand at least a little bit.

Hugs and prayers go out to you and your mom and the family; please take care.

Wanda, I totally agree with these first two posts. Your Mom and Dad are truly blessed to have you there! Be sure to take care of the caregiver; they would want you to. Love and Prayers, Joy

Wanda you are doing incredibly well holding it all together, such a frightening time for you and your family.
I hope all goes well for mum, she's in good hands.
I recall a friend saying recently " you can only help others once you've put on your own oxygen mask"- in other words you must look after yourself in order to be strong enough to help those you love. So take good care of you and get your rest in as and when you can/

Good luck to your and your mother, sweetie. I can certainly empathize for sure! Hope everything goes well. I know what a good person, good daughter you are and you are doing all you can to make her comfortable. Be sure to take time for yourself when you can. It's so hard.....We never get used to it, but the panic will ease up some. Don't forget that I'm sending you my positive vibes and prayers. Sounds like you are doing an awesome job.
    Love and hugs,
