Still Trying to Get Back

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Hello, again, my friends,

I've been psyching myself up to try to get back to healthful eating, instead of stress eating--so naturally I thought of Sparkpeople:)

I'm still dealing with a lot of health issues--Meniere's Disease, Rheumatoid arthhritis, and some highly elevated inflammation causing pain in my back, shoulders, neck, thighs and hips. I've been tested and re-tested for Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, etc. but no cause can be found. I have been on steroids for a month now and I can walk without a cane, Praise God! I still can only walk a short ways without vertigo, but it's still a step forward! Unfortunately, my doctor is already weaning me off the steroids; there are too many risks for me to take them long-term. She just wanted to see if they would help--another clue for her in the puzzle of what my treatment should be.

My depression has lifted somewhat with the ability to move around a little more, so now is the time for me to try to get back on track with my eating habits. It has been three years since my battle with the health issues began and over a year that I've been almost totally sedentary. Needless to say, the pounds have piled on. I have faced the fact that I may never be able to take long walks, exercise, or do yoga again, so I will do what I can, even if it's just sit in a chair and do leg lifts. I will count my blessings and cancel all pity parties (at least I'll try.) emoticon

God has been so good to me! He has found excellent, caring doctors and given me the support of a wonderful family. (My poor husband has had to go to the grocery store for the last three years--and he does so without complaint, even though he hates every minute of it.) I have also been able to keep my job; my boss just gave me a private office so that my vertigo is not disturbed by the comings and goings of a busy college office. Truly, I have a lot to be thankful for.

I'm excited to touch base again with all my old friends on Sparkpeople. I look forward to both giving and receiving the support that makes it all easier to bear. You all helped me through 13 months of weight loss before I got sick, and I'm asking for your support again, though the weight loss will almost certainly be at a slower pace.......but one step at a time, right?

Thanks to all who have prayed for me. Obviously, it is working, though it's in God's time and not mine. He's still trying to teach me patience. emoticon

Hope everyone has had a blessed Easter!

Marlene
