A little each day: habits and routines make it happen.

Friday, April 29, 2011

My journey with Sparkpeople has been accompanied by Flylady.net. Flylady is to cleaning and decluttering what SP is to diet and exercise. There is no "quick fix" or "magic pill". There are small, manageable routines that you build, OVER TIME, that become habits to better health, fitness and peace of mind.

Both web sites teach people to start out small. To not get overwhelmed. To take small steps and build on them over time. To build a foundation that will last a lifetime. With small steps and little routines - we can make it a little further down the road towards our best life.

I am so lucky here on SP to have SparkFriends who are committed to making small changes that add up to big changes. I see them struggle but NOT give up - they KNOW that it's the small things that count, that add up, that have led them to 60 lbs lost, 80 lbs lost and 100+ lbs lost. Incredible.

These friends blog about their challenges and what they did, or didn't do. They analyze their choices and can pinpoint the places that need improvement. What they DON'T do is beat themselves to a pulp for making a "mistake". They also don't add extra drama to smaller-than-expected weight loss or weight gains. They accept. They move forward. Because overall, what they've been doing has led them down the "losing" path.

I want to take a moment to thank all of you - my SparkFriends - for continuing to be the daily inspirations that you are. A little each day has already taken us far, far down this weight loss path and I am so excited to be journeying with you!

Lose on, my friends, LOSE ON!

Great blog as always, Jen. You are so thoughtful and your thought processes help so many of us. This has made me realise that all the times I slither and moan are steps on my way to my goal and are not the major and shameful dramas that I turn them into. Thank you so much for posting - you have provided another stepping stone in my path.

When I first started Spark 3 years ago, I joined a dozen teams, set 20 daily goals and DIDN'T DO ANY OF THEM!
After several start-overs, finally go it. Picked 6 glasses of water and 5 minutes of exercise daily. After a couple of weeks, upped.
We are re-learning a lifetime of bad habits. Slow is ok.
