An AHA moment

Ohmigawsh! I'm totally stunned. I've been telling my dad for months now that his fibromyalgia is thyroid driven but he refuses to believe me because he refuses to be on any med for the rest of his life.
My brother called. Mainly to discuss how my mother is doing because she just had her knee replaced. But then he mentioned that he had been talking to a family acquaintance that is a distant relative. ( Her grandmother is also my dad's grandmother).
He told her how about a year ago his son had to have his thyroid removed because of cancer. She just casually stated how "well that's another one in the family." My brother asked her what she meant by that. She told him that her grandmother had to have hers removed as well as her two daughters and so on down that side of the family.
That was the first time my brother and I had ever heard that there was any one in the family anywhere that dealt with this. My father's father( who's mother this was) died pretty young and that side of the family never was very close so my dad didn't remember ever hearing about any of this.
My mother having my brother and I take fluoride didn't help us either. But at least now we know where this started from and can tell all of our children a better family history.
