Slow Going...

Tuesday, July 05, 2011

I'm back from my trips but still haven't unpacked -- I have been concentrating so much on my exercise and eating properly.

I cannot express how frustrating it is to live in my body... to work so hard at something every day with so few results.

I spent the evening retracing my steps, looking back to those food journals & exercise journals to when I had great results in order to replicate them-- but I am doing the same things.

I realize I do best when I eat mostly RAW veggies & fruits... not cooked. I need to resist my husband's influences on dinner choices (which are always healthy but not the RAW - which seems the 'best' for me.)

All I can do is to keep going... not give up. Come to realize the older I get, the harder I must work.

Hi sweetie! I hearya on how hard it is to lose and keep on going down; My mom used to say "The first ten lbs are easy.......then it gets hard!" Now, with SparkPeople's resources and information, I understood not only why, but what I needed to do, and what I needed to watch for. And I began to make progress...........however........<
Lifestyle change is so very different than losing weight! This is my fifth year and several of the last couple have been plateaus! some even ten lb slip backs due to unforeseen challenges! What has helped keep me going was realizing that Life is not static and our bodies change, that when we are cutting back on cals, we also have to work on, minimally, preserving muscle ordinarily lost when just 'dieting', and undermining, in the process, our need to INCREASE metabolism! ACK! So I came to understand the importance of Strength Training for many reasons.

It is hard bec my joints are not what they used to be: I came to realize that slow and steady does it, reasonable amounts of weights and paying attention to my body and age were important; again, SparkPeople provided some great info on how to exercise with an older body! Still not easy because I had to realize also, that my 'thinking' was stinking! ALL or NOTHING, NOW or NEVER! had to go out the window.

Realizing that this is an ongoing process and not a BE ALL END ALL has helped the MOST! Never give up, always forgive, forever evaluate and keep on keeping ON!
