Ear Worms

Tuesday, August 02, 2011

Earworm, a loan translation of the German Ohrwurm, is a portion of a song or other music that repeats compulsively within one's mind, put colloquially as "music being stuck in one's head."-Wikipedia

I think those of us who struggle with living healthier and losing weight often have a different type of "earworm". The whispers that run through our minds as we are making this some times difficult adjustment in our lives.

A new month, and, I hope to kick out the bad earworm -- *what's the use-just give up-see, you aren't getting anywhere-what the hell do you think you are doing-in this heat, forget it-see, nothing but pain*
and hear more from the good earworm--*come on, push it a little more-17 minute miles, wow-no thank you, I don't want any pizza (4x)-gee, these pants don't cut and dig into embarrassing areas of my anatomy*

Food to feed the worm-
The scale showed a loss this morning, bringing my total weight loss so far to 9.6 lbs.
I have lost a total of 4.75 inches off my measurements.
I had to extend my bicycle ride to the next traffic light (1/3 of a mile) to get at least 35 minutes of cardio.

I know the bad worn will wiggle in, especially when I am pedaling on the slight up grade with the wind gusting off the ocean trying to push me backwards, but I am learning to ignore it, or at least tell it "I'll listen in a minute, just give me a minute" over and over until the obstacle has past.

A very big "Mahalo Plenty" to every one who has given me encouragement, either directly with comments and goodies, or by simply sharing your own words of doubt, discouragement, hope, joy and triumph.
