What a difference a year makes!! (Includes pictures)

On August 12 of last year, I posted my first blog entry on SparkPeople, about the wake-up call I received while on a lake trip with some of my girlfriends. Basically, it was about how I was no longer able to deny the situation with my weight and that I needed to get real and get serious about taking care of myself. In the blog, I talked about how hard it was to see all the other girls run for the pool in their skimpy bikinis while I could hardly stand to even sit out there fully dressed. In the blog, I said something about the lake trip this year (2011) and how I would strip off my clothes in a hurry to reveal my own teeny, tiny bikini.
So - the 2011 lake trip is this weekend, one year to the day after the last one. I bought a bikini a month ago and have already worn it on vacation in Hawaii. Was I the skinniest person on the beach? Nope. Did I care? Not a bit. Why? Because even though I have "only" lost 20 lbs., I am so much stronger, fitter, and healthier - in my body AND in my mind and spirit. I still have 25 lbs. to lose, but I am totally OK with that. This is a process and it takes however long it takes. I am making better, healthier choices every day - like working out almost every day of my vacation in Hawaii, but also choosing to enjoy the local food and have a few (well-chosen) treats.
In the attached pictures, you'll see first me in a brown pool cover-up at the lake last year. In the second, you'll see me not in the bikini I bought (not quite ready for that!) but in a dress I wore a few weeks ago in which you can see how much progress I've made. Not only do I look smaller, I look healthier and happier.
This weekend, even though I'll still probably be the biggest girl who will be at the lake house, I will proudly wear my bikini - and I might even have a picture taken and post it next week!
I've worked hard to get here. Here's to the power of a spark that got ignited a year ago and is still burning brightly today.
