Cure for Kara
We Urge You to “Get Swabbed“ as 18-year old Kara of Military Parents is Desperately Fighting to Win Battle Over Blood Cancer Can you imagine serving in Afghanistan, thousands of miles away from your family, and finding out that the apple of your eye, ...your daughter, has been diagnosed with a deadly blood cancer? That’s what one military father and mother are experiencing. They have put their lives on the line, but are now faced with the crippling fear of losing their 18-year-old daughter, Kara, to a deadly form of blood cancer. On May 16, 2011, a biopsy of a nasal cavity tumor revealed that Kara had a rare form of lymphoma NKT – a white blood cell killer. Unfortunately, surgical removal of the tumor is not a viable option and her best chance for survival is a bone marrow transplant. Kara's little sister is not a match, and currently, there is no donor on the registry who can save Kara's life. Kara's parents, Nathan and Rosie, each served two tours of duty in Iraq and another in Afghanistan. They are our heroes and now we have a chance to be heroes for Kara, her family and the many others experiencing similar situations. But we need you! Every day thousands of patients search the Be The Match Registry looking for a bone marrow donor match, but only 4 out of 10 patients are lucky enough to receive a transplant.
