Final straw??

Monday, September 26, 2011

Been up and down with dieting and exercise over the last 15 years.
I'm 34 now and am worried that the older I get the harder it will be to lose, which of course it will. I also worry about cancer, diabetes and other weight related illnesses. 3 people in my family have died of colon cancer recently.
I'm generally a VERY optimistic person, so for me to worry about these things is a SERIOUS matter :p

I feel like this is the final straw. It's now or never.

I sat down and thought about what I've done right in the past and what hasn't worked. I have always been very good at the planning, but not so good at the execution :D My worst habit was not wanting to go to the gym, so what did I do? I made one at home. Got on craigslist and found some cheap equipment in fairly good condition. I bought a bowflex sport home gym, an elliptical, bicycle, thigh trainer, step and weight set. All for $300. Then cancelled my $50pm gym contract that I haven't used in 6 months or more. I have used MY gym everyday for 2 weeks. So has my husband.... extra bonus.... yay !!!

I have always wanted a black belt in karate, so I started Taekwondo in May. It was the only option in my small town. In June I went to the World Championships in Little Rock and got a gold medal. My competitive spirit was ignited :D I am now aiming at next year's Championships. I want 3 golds. I would not be able to get it at my current weight and fitness level (or lack thereof). My instructor lost 80 pounds a few years ago and is VERY encouraging. He and his wife are so awesome. They really kick our butts hard at class twice a week.

I used to love running many years ago and I want to get back into it, so I called a friend who is big into running and have made plans to do some 5k's together in the Spring and 10k's in the summer. I want to do a marathon in 2013. Maybe the New York one but will have to research others. Just call me Oprah :D

So, instead of making plans to lose a certain amount every month, eat specific foods and exercise for an hour every morning, like I usually would, I have just started doing things that I love and the rest seems to fall into place. I have already gotten my orange belt in Taekwondo and will be testing for my yellow one in 3 weeks. I'm so amped about that.

Where was I going with this?
I have no idea. I have just finished exercising so the endorphins are doing the typing... mwhahahahahaaaaaa........

Wow, congratulations on everything! I love a little competition to get me motivated. If I had room a home gym would be great, but fortunately there is a reasonably priced one right by work.
