Winning in Winter: Letter to Self ~ Week 1

Thursday, December 22, 2011

So, I have put off writing this letter until the very last minute. Not sure why, except that leading the Lime Team has seemed a bit more overwhelming this season. We have sooo many new people and I want to be a good leader and help them along with their goals and not let them down. I LIKE having new people on the team, it's just that since I have been leading the Limes it is unusual to have THIS many new members. While it is exciting, I have this fear that I might let someone down or something. Some of my members even new ones seem to be doing so much better than me and I fear that as a leader I am not setting as good of an example as I need to be.

That said, here is my letter:

Dear Shan,
As you look back and you read what you wrote above, you will smile, because even though you floundered some the first couple weeks of the challenge getting your bearings, you set a very good example for those you led in the winter lime team challenge.

As you said at the end of the Fall Challenge (see last blog), you have focused on making healthy HABITS this winter. Each week (after the first two), you took a habit and worked on it and tried to add to it each week. You still participated in the challenges more just like you did in Fall and you used them to help you with your healthy habits you chose to work on each week.

You got over your gain from the first week and turned it around and have ended up with an overall loss from the beginning start weight to the last weigh-in. Overall, you have had a good winter and have helped to develop a strong team with lots of support and good friendships/relationships formed.

It's time to look ahead and make some new goals for Spring now, you can do it, you are ready.

Love you,
Me

    Shan,

How we women "worry" oursleves andnotwant to let anyone down. I relate so well because I have avoided doing many things & close relationships to avoid being the one who let someone down.

From my point of view, you are always on the A list of working very very very hard to satisfy all of us. Some days it just can't be done so you will have to laugh and go on with your plan for a healthier you. Share the rules and when we break them, give us a polite hand slap and tell us to behave. We are all children in some ways and need that discipline. We must be good training ofr you as a teacher. hee, hee.

Shan, more important, you are a team member also and you have to have a plan to succeed as well. THe success of onemember fuels the fires of all of us. So put your plan down on paper, pin itup where you see it every morning and make the plan work for you! Go SHANNON GO SHANNON!

You are a caring good person and will certainly take all the steps you need to be successful this winter! Let the snow melt us away!! lol

    Dear sweet Shan,
You work very hard as a team leader and the limes are lucky to have you. It's a lot of work! We appreciate it and should tell you leaders that more than we do.

The person you should worry about letting down is yourself! YOU are numero uno and YOU should be proud of your efforts. Do what makes YOU proud. The rest of us aren't thinking about how good or bad anybody else is doing and judging them. We're too busy trying to do well ourselves and we want to support our friends here, not criticize them.

That said, would you believe my husband made these gooey ooey cinnamon rolls for breakfast and I didn't want to eat em but I did so what did I do? I chewed it and spit it out into the garbage disposal! HA!

I'm sure you are not letting anyone down. It sounds like you care a lot and are concerned about setting a good example for the members of your team. We all understand the struggles that come with our journey to lose weight and that everyone has their good times and their bad times as well. I find the Christmas season a very difficult time to keep on track but am busy planning some side dishes that will be healthy for myself as well as my guests. If I choose wisely, they will enjoy them as much as the richer foods that I generally prepare so here's hoping I can pull it off. Enjoy your holiday season.
